Woutertje Pieterse Prijs
The Woutertje Pieterse Prijs (; Dutch language, Dutch for Woutertje Pieterse Prize) is an annual Dutch literary award for the best Children's literature, children's book of the preceding year. History The award was first given in 1988. The award is awarded annually in March or April. The award is named after the character Woutertje Pieterse in ''Ideeën'' written by Multatuli. The award's name refers to the character's curiosity and tendency to go against society's Morality, morals. Similarly, the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs is awarded to books that differ from children's literature with a Didacticism, didactic or moralistic nature. Some authors have received the award multiple times, including Toon Tellegen (1992, 1994), Joke van Leeuwen (1997, 1999), and Paul Biegel (1991, 2000). Children's literature or juvenile literature includes stories, books, magazines, and poems that are created for children. In addition to conventional literary genres, modern children's literature is classified by the intended age of the reader, ranging from picture books for the very young to young adult fiction for those nearing maturity. Children's literature can be traced to traditional stories like fairy tales, which have only been identified as children's literature since the eighteenth century, and songs, part of a wider oral tradition, which adults shared with children before publishing existed. Harm is a moral and legal concept with multiple definitions. It generally functions as a synonym for evil or anything that is bad under certain moral systems. Harrie Geelen (born 10 January 1939) is a Dutch illustrator, film director, animator, translator, writer and poet. In 2014, he was made a knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion ("Ridder in de orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw"). He studied Dutch in Amsterdam, where he met his wife Imme Dros, like himself a writer of Dutch children's literature. Thé Tjong-Khing
Thé Tjong-Khing (; born August 4, 1933) is a children's book illustrator based in the Netherlands. He was born in Purworedjo, Java, Dutch East Indies to a large Chinese Indonesian family. As a child he was interested in the Tarzan comic strips of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tjong-Khing attended the ''Seni Rupa'' (arts) institute in Bandung. He came to the Netherlands in 1956 and started as a draftsman at the Toonder Studio's, initially as a volunteer and later as an employee. In addition to his work on Oliver B. Bumble comics, he contributed to the magazine ''Tina'' and created ''Arman & Ilva''. In 1970 he was asked to provide illustration for Miep Diekmann's children's book. He became a freelance illustrator providing illustration to many children's book authors such as van Guus Kuijer, Els Pelgrom, Sylvia Vanden Heede en Dolf Verroen. Fleur Van Der Weel
Fleur van der Weel (born 9 February 1970) is a Dutch illustrator. Career In 2004, Van der Weel and Edward van de Vendel won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs for their book ''Superguppie'' (2003). She also received the Vlag en Wimpel award for her illustrations in this book. In the years that followed, both published several other books in the ''Supperguppie'' book series. In 2012, they both also published the book ''Hallo'', a picture book on the occasion of the Kinderboekenweek. Guus Kuijer
Guus Kuijer (; born 1 August 1942) is a Dutch author. He wrote books for children and adults, and is best known for the ''Madelief'' series of children's books. For his career contribution to "children's and young adult literature in the broadest sense" he won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award from the Swedish Arts Council in 2012, the biggest prize in children's literature. As a children's writer he was one of five finalists for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2008. Early life Guus Kuijer is born on 1 August 1942 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Peter van Gestel (3 August 1937, Amsterdam – 1 March 2019, Amsterdam) was a Dutch writer. Career Writing Van Gestel made his debut in 1962 with ''Drempelvrees'', a collection of stories. He received the Reina Prinsen Geerligsprijs for this book. In 1976, he published the book ''Ver van huis'' under the pseudonym Sander Joosten. He made his debut in children's literature with ''Schuilen onder je schooltas'' in 1979. He received the Vlag en Wimpel award for this book. Bart Peter Boudewijn Moeyaert (born 9 June 1964) is a Belgian writer. Early life Moeyaert was born in 1964 in Bruges as the youngest of seven brothers. He is named after the character Bartje in the book series by Anne de Vries and after Baudouin of Belgium (Boudewijn). As is tradition in Belgium, King Baudouin of Belgium is his godfather as Moeyaert is the seventh son in an unbroken succession of sons. Wim Hofman
Wim Hofman ( Oostkapelle, February 2, 1941) is a Dutch author. After elementary school he joined the seminary in Sterksel, because he wanted to become a missionary. He started writing books early, and published his first novel, "Welwel, de zeer grote tovenaar & zes andere doldwaze verhalen over ridders, tovenaars, matrozen, krentenbollen, cowboys, indianen & over een planeet" in 1969. On February 2, 1970 he married Toke Mertens and moved to Vlissingen, where he still lives. He has two children. Wim Hofman also illustrates his own books, and paints. He won awards for a number of his books. Notable Books Wim Hofman wrote a large number of books. Some of the important ones are described here. Anton Quintana
Anton Quintana (6 September 1937 – 15 October 2017), pseudonym of Anton Adolf Kuyten, was a Dutch writer. Biography Early life Quintana was born in 1937 as the twin brother of André Kuyten. His brother was named by his mother and Quintana was named by his father after Anton Mussert and Adolf Hitler. His father abandoned his wife and children when Quintana was two years old to join the National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands, Dutch national socialist party. Their mother died of tuberculosis when they were ten years old. The twins then moved to an orphanage in Amsterdam. Due to complications at birth, one side of Quintana's face was left disfigured which was only corrected when he was sixteen years of age.
