World Unity Conference
The World Unity Conferences were a series of Baháʼí sponsored conferences to promote World Unity. There was also a ''World Unity'' magazine. Both appear to have been short-lived. Baháʼí Faith
The Baháʼí Faith is a religion founded in the 19th century that teaches the Baháʼí Faith and the unity of religion, essential worth of all religions and Baháʼí Faith and the unity of humanity, the unity of all people. Established by Baháʼu'lláh, it initially developed in Iran and parts of the Middle East, where it has faced Persecution of Baháʼís, ongoing persecution since its inception. The religion has 5-8 million adherents (known as Baháʼís) spread throughout most of the world's countries and territories. The Baháʼí Faith has three central figures: the Báb (1819–1850), executed for heresy, who taught that a prophet similar to Jesus and Muhammad would soon appear; Baháʼu'lláh (1817–1892), who claimed to be said prophet in 1863 and who had to endure both exile and imprisonment; and his son, ʻAbdu'l-Bahá (1844–1921), who made teaching trips to Europe and the United States after his release from confinement in 1908. Foundations Of World Unity
Foundations of World Unity is a collection of talks and writings of ʻAbdu'l-Bahá, leader of the Baháʼí Faith, dated prior to his death in November 1921, and first published in 1945. The introduction to the 1945 edition is dated 1927. Morrison Hotel (Chicago)
The Morrison Hotel was a high rise hotel at the corner of Madison and Clark Streets in the downtown Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois. It was designed by the architectural firm of Holabird & Roche and completed in 1925. The hotel was demolished in 1965 to make room for the First National Bank Building (now Chase Tower). The hotel was named for Orsemus Morrison, the first coroner in Chicago, who bought the site in 1838 and in 1860 built a three-story hotel with 21 rooms that was later destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, this was replaced by an eight-story building that opened in 1873. A third and much larger 21-floor structure was constructed in 1915 to replace that one and saw numerous expansions (including the addition of the 46-story skyscraper component) before being entirely demolished in 1965. Ritz-Carlton Montreal
The Ritz-Carlton Montréal is a luxury hotel located at 1228 Sherbrooke Street West, on the corner of Drummond Street, in Montreal, Quebec. Opened in 1912, it was the second Ritz-Carlton hotel in North America after one in New York City. Its name was originally licensed by César Ritz directly, and while the hotel is now part of the chain managed by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, it retains its original branding stylization. The original builders referred to themselves as the Carlton Hotel Company of Montreal, with the concept of naming the hotel after London's celebrated Carlton Hotel. However, one of the investors, Charles Hosmer, was a personal friend of César Ritz, and persuaded his colleagues to incorporate the Ritz name associated with the success of the Hôtel Ritz Paris, which opened in 1898. Hotel Bond
Hotel Bond is a historic hotel, built in two stages in 1913 and 1921, in Downtown Hartford, downtown Hartford, Connecticut by hotelier Harry S. Bond. It is located near Bushnell Park, and was considered the grandest hotel in Hartford during its heyday. The second section, the West Wing, is a 12-story building attached to the 6 story first section, and the hotel also acquired and incorporated an older, adjacent 4-story building, the East Wing. The old East Wing was demolished in the 1960s. A Statler Hotels, Statler Hotel opened in the area in 1954, creating competition, and the Bond Hotel company declared bankruptcy shortly after that. It was bought by the California-based Masaglia Hotel chain, which began an incremental renovation program. In 1964 it was sold to a Cincinnati, Ohio investment group which announced extensive renovation plans. However, the financing plans fell through and the hotel was again in bankruptcy.
