World Methodist Peace Award
The World Methodist Peace Award is a peace award. It was established by Dr. Stanley Leyland at the 13th World Methodist Conference in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland held in 1976 and is awarded by the World Methodist Council. It is awarded for significant contributions to peace, reconciliation and justice on the basis of courage, creativity and consistency. Bärbel Bohley
Bärbel Bohley (24 May 1945 – 11 September 2010) was an East German opposition figure and artist. Biography As an artist, Bohley won prizes from the authorities, including a trip to the Soviet Union. Her opposition to the government did not start until the 1980s. In 1983 she was expelled from the GDR artists federation (VBK) and was banned from travelling abroad or exhibiting her work in East Germany. She was accused of having contacts to the West German Green Party. In 1985 she was one of the co-founders of the Initiative for Peace and Human Rights. In 1988 she was arrested during a demonstration and expelled from the DDR. She was given a six-month visa to the United Kingdom, and she returned to East Germany that August. In 1989 she was one of the founders of New Forum. Sunday Coffie Mbang (; 26 August 1936 – 16 May 2023) was a Nigerian, prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria. He served as President of the World Methodist Council and National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria. Early life and education Sunday Mbang was born in Idua Eket, Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 26 August 1936. Lawi Imathiu
Lawa ( or ; ) are an ethnic group in northern Thailand. The Lawa language is related to the Blang and the Wa language found in China and Myanmar (Burma), and belongs to the Palaungic languages, a branch of the Austroasiatic languages. Their population is estimated to be some 17,000. The Western Lawa are found in the vicinity of Mae Sariang in the south of Mae Hong Son Province, the Eastern Lawa are centred on Bo Luang in Chiang Mai Province. Millard Fuller
Millard Dean Fuller (January 3, 1935 – February 3, 2009) was an American humanitarian and missionary who was the co-founder and the former president of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit organization known globally for building houses for those in need. Fuller also was the founder and president of The Fuller Center for Housing. Fuller was widely regarded as the leader of the modern-day movement for affordable housing and had been honored for his work in the United States and abroad. Casimira Rodríguez (born 1966) was the Bolivian Justice Minister from February 2006 until January 23, 2007. She is a former leader in the Domestic Workers' Union, which she helped found. Rodríguez was Bolivia's first indigenous Quechua woman to serve as a government minister. Career At the age of 13 she was taken—essentially kidnapped—from her rural village in Mizque and brought to the city of Cochabamba to work, with the promise that she would be given in return the schooling and care her campesino parents could not provide. Instead, her supposed employers held Rodríguez in abusive servitude for two years, forcing her to work long hours with no pay. Boris Trajkovski ( GCMG; , pronounced ; 25 June 1956 – 26 February 2004) was a Macedonian politician who served as the President of Macedonia from 1999 until his death in 2004 in a plane crash. The Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo () is a human rights organization with the goal of finding the children stolen and illegally adopted during the National Reorganization Process, 1976–1983 Argentine military dictatorship. The Community of Sant'Egidio () is a lay Catholic association dedicated to social service, founded in 1968 under the leadership of Andrea Riccardi.
