Witness A Rebirth
''Witness a Rebirth'' is the fourth full-length album by the Californian hardcore band Strife. It was released in 2012, marking their first album in over a decade, since their 2001 album ''Angermeans''. Background The band traveled to Brazil to record the album. Guitarist Andrew Kline commented the album would be "more along the lines of ''In This Defiance''". It was also revealed that Igor Cavalera, formerly of Sepultura and Cavalera Conspiracy, would be handling all drum duties for the album. Also contributing to the album were members of fellow Californian hardcore band Terror. Strife (band)
Strife is an American hardcore punk band from Thousand Oaks, California. They formed in 1991. Biography Their first LP, ''One Truth'', was released in 1994 via Victory Records. Their second album, ''In This Defiance'', was released in 1997 and includes guest appearances, with Chino Moreno of Deftones, Dino Cazares of Fear Factory and Igor Cavalera of Sepultura all taking turns on the album. They broke up two years later citing creative differences and exhaustion. Victory Records released ''Truth Through Defiance'', a compilation of live tracks and previously unreleased material. They reunited in 2000, playing several benefit concerts. By the following year, they had re-formed and released ''Angermeans''. Metalcore
Metalcore (also known as metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing, occasional blast beats, and double bass drumming. Vocalists in the genre typically use thrash or scream vocals. Some later metalcore bands combine this with clean singing, often during the chorus. Holy Roar Records was an independent record label run by Alex Fitzpatrick. The label began in January 2006 and put out its first release in June 2006, the Phoenix Bodies album, ''Raise the Bullshit flag''. Fitzpatrick originally joked that the name was derived from a vision he had whilst on the hallucinogen LSD. According to Fitzpatrick, the name “Holy Roar” was derived from a Torche song with the same title. History Holy Roar Records was formed at the beginning of 2006, when Alex Fitzpatrick moved to London. Igor Cavalera
Igor Graziano Cavalera (born 4 September 1970) is a Brazilian musician, best known as the former drummer for the heavy metal band Sepultura, which he co-founded with his brother Max in 1984. Max left the band in 1996, and Cavalera himself would depart ten years later, making him the last original member of Sepultura to leave the band. The brothers have since reunited in the band Cavalera Conspiracy. He has played in the bands Nailbomb and Strife. As his hip-hop influences grew stronger, he began to DJ. Cavalera is one half of DJ duo Mixhell, a project he founded with his wife Laima Leyton. Biography Cavalera started playing drums around seven years old. Cavalera Conspiracy
Cavalera Conspiracy is an American heavy metal supergroup founded by Brazilian brothers Max (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Igor Cavalera (drums, percussion). The band originally formed in 2007 as Inflikted but changed its name for legal reasons. The group's creation marked the end of a 10-year feud between the Cavalera brothers who founded Sepultura in the early 1980s. Following the brothers' falling out, Max Cavalera had formed a new band, Soulfly, and Igor had recorded four studio albums with Sepultura before leaving the band in January 2006. In July 2006, Max received an unexpected call from his brother, and by the end of the conversation, Max had invited Igor to visit him in Phoenix, Arizona, to perform in a Soulfly show.
