Windsor Framework Democratic Scrutiny Committee
The Windsor Framework Democratic Scrutiny Committee was established to assist with the observation and implementation of Article 13(3a) and (4) of the Windsor Framework, which is a legal agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom which adjusts the operation of the Northern Ireland Protocol. These are the parts of the Framework which set out the processes for how new, and amending or replacement EU law may apply in Northern Ireland. In order to operationalise the democratic mechanisms included within the Windsor framework, the UK parliament approved regulations, known as the "Stormont brake". 2022–2027 Assembly The committee will met for the first time in the 2022–2027 Assembly on 15 February 2024, has met in between and will meet again December 5, 2024. Windsor Framework
The Windsor Framework is a post-Brexit legal agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom which adjusts the operation of the Northern Ireland Protocol. The Framework was announced on 27 February 2023, formally adopted by both parties on 24 March 2023 and came into effect on 1 October 2023. The UK Government announced plans for revisions to the Framework's operation in January 2024. The Framework was negotiated to address political concerns in the UK and especially among Ulster Unionists about the Northern Ireland Protocol. Under the terms of the Protocol, Northern Ireland, unlike the rest of the UK, remains in the EU single market for goods. This puts in place a ''de facto'' Irish Sea trade border for goods moving to Northern Ireland from Great Britain. Stephen Dunne (born 1988/89) is a Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) politician, serving as a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for North Down since June 2021. Upper Bann (Assembly Constituency)
Upper Bann is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Forum in 1996. Since 1998, it has elected members to the current Assembly. For Assembly elections prior to 1996, the constituency was largely part of the Armagh (Assembly constituency), Armagh and South Down (Assembly constituency), South Down constituencies with a small section around Aghagallon joining from South Antrim (Assembly constituency), South Antrim. Eóin Tennyson
Eóin Tennyson (born 17 May 1998) is a Northern Irish politician who has been the deputy leader of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland since October 2024. He succeeded former deputy leader Stephen Farry who resigned from the position in 2024. He has been a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Upper Bann since 2022, where he defeated former Social Democratic and Labour Party incumbent Dolores Kelly to become the youngest MLA for the constituency. Declan Kearney
Declan Kearney (born 19 December 1964) is an Irish republican politician in Northern Ireland who is the current National Chairman of Sinn Féin. Kearney was a Junior Minister in the Northern Ireland Executive from 2020 to 2022, and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for South Antrim since 2016. Connie Egan is a Northern Irish politician who is an Alliance Party Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). She was elected as an MLA in the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election for North Down. The Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland, commonly abbreviated to the Northern Ireland Protocol (NIP), is a protocol to the Brexit withdrawal agreement that sets out Northern Ireland’s post-Brexit relationship with both the EU and Great Britain. The Withdrawal Agreement, including the Protocol, came into effect on 1 January 2021. Citing the island of Ireland's "unique circumstances," the Protocol governs unique arrangements on the island between the United Kingdom and the European Union; it regulates some aspects of trade in goods between Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom.
