Windsor Border Stars
Windsor TFC is a Canadian soccer team based in Windsor, Ontario, that was founded in 2004. They have competed in the Canadian Professional Soccer League (CPSL) and Canadian Soccer League (CSL). Throughout their tenure in the CPSL/CSL, Windsor won two Open Canada Cups, one American Indoor Soccer League (AISL) Championship, and maintained a status of regular playoff contender. Around the 2008 CSL season, the club faced financial and player commitment problems which resulted in the league revoking the franchise. In 2011, former Windsor and CSL Defender of the Year Filip Rocca was granted a franchise and brought back Windsor to compete in the Canadian Soccer League. Following the de-sanctioning of the CSL by the Canadian Soccer Association the club joined the newly formed League1 Ontario in 2014. University Of Windsor Stadium
University of Windsor Stadium, also known as Alumni Field, South Campus Stadium and St. Denis Centre Stadium, is a 2,000-seat stadium located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The stadium is mainly used for soccer and Canadian football. It is home to the Windsor Lancers, the athletic teams of the University of Windsor. The stadium was built in conjunction with the City of Windsor to host the 2005 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. The total project cost $8.6 million and was built by Eastern Construction and designed by JP Thomson Associates Ltd. The stadium opened in June 2005. The stadium is next to the St. Denis Athletic Centre. A FieldTurf playing surface was added to the stadium after a fundraising initiative, including a large donation of $500,000 from the University of Windsor Alumni Association. National Professional Soccer League (1984–2001)
The National Professional Soccer League was a professional indoor soccer league in the US and Canada. It was originally called the American Indoor Soccer Association. History In November 1983, a Kalamazoo, Michigan-based group called Soccer Leagues Unlimited unveiled a plan for an indoor league composed exclusively of American players. The group's president, Bob Lemieux (later AISA commissioner), announced that Kalamazoo, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Springfield, Illinois, were on board in what was he said was intended to be a sort of farm system, or developmental league, for the well established Major Indoor Soccer League. He added that groups in Indianapolis, Peoria, and Michigan cities, Saginaw and Flint; Kentucky cities, Lexington and Louisville; Ohio cities, Columbus Toledo and Dayton; Erie, PA; and Green Bay, Wisconsin, were all interested in joining the league.
