Wieringermeerpolder
Wieringermeer () is a polder and former Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Since 2012 Wieringermeer has been a part of the new municipality of Hollands Kroon. Population centres The former municipality of Wieringermeer consisted of the following small towns and villages: Kreileroord, Middenmeer, Slootdorp, Wieringerwerf. History Around the year 1000 AD, this area was land. However, several storms after 1100 turned it into a flood plain. Wieringmeer means "Wieringen Lake", the name of an inland lake that filled the area in the early Middle Ages, medieval period. The Wieringmeerpolder is a polder, newly created land, and part of the Zuiderzee Works developed in the 20th century. Inundation Of The Wieringermeer
On 17 April 1945, the retreating German occupying forces inundated the polder of Wieringermeer, the Netherlands. Zuiderzee Works
The Zuiderzee Works () is a system of dams and Levee, dikes, land reclamation and water drainage work, which was the largest hydraulic engineering project undertaken by the Netherlands during the twentieth century. The project involved the damming of the Zuiderzee, a large, shallow inlet of the North Sea, and the reclamation of land in the newly enclosed water using polders. Its main purposes are to improve flood protection and create additional land for agriculture. 2010 Dutch Municipal Elections
Municipal elections were held on Wednesday 3 March 2010 in most municipalities in the Netherlands. This election determined the composition of the municipal councils for the following four years. The elections were held a few weeks after the fall of the Fourth Balkenende cabinet. Nearly 24% of the vote went to local parties and independent candidates, more than any national political party. The Labour Party remained the most popular party overall, despite a significant decline in their vote share. Support for the CDA also decreased, while the VVD made moderate gains and Democrats 66 nearly doubled their support. The CDA held the most seats of any party, mainly due to its higher level of support in rural areas.
