WestConnex
WestConnex in Sydney, Australia is the largest and longest road tunnel in Australia, with a length of 22 km. A joint project of the New South Wales and Australian Federal governments, the motorway scheme created around motorway with 6-10 lanes between Homebush and Kingsgrove, passing underneath Inner West suburbs including Haberfield and St Peters. The first of the tunnels, the M4 East, opened to traffic in July 2019. The second of the tunnels, the M8 Motorway, opened to traffic a year later in July 2020. The third of the tunnels which extend the M4 and M8 opened to traffic in January 2023. The final component of the scheme, the Rozelle Interchange, opened to traffic in November 2023. M4 Motorway (Sydney)
The M4 motorway is a series of partially tolled dual carriageway motorways in Sydney designated as route M4. The M4 designation is part of the wider A4 and M4 route designation, the M4 runs parallel and/or below ground to Great Western Highway, Parramatta Road and City West Link, which are part of route A44. The M4 motorway comprises two connected parts: *Western Motorway is the original section, completed between 1971 and 1993 between and , before continuing west as Great Western Highway through the Blue Mountains towards Bathurst. Rozelle Interchange
The Rozelle Interchange is an underground motorway interchange in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was built as part of WestConnex and opened to traffic on 26 November 2023. The interchange includes a toll-free bypass of Victoria Road between the Iron Cove Bridge and the Anzac Bridge known as the Iron Cove Link. The interchange is located at the site of the former Rozelle Rail Yards. It is one of largest and most complex underground junctions in the world. It has three storeys of tunnels, with the deepest being below ground. The interchange will be the southern terminus of the under-construction Western Harbour Tunnel, which will be completed in 2028. Sydney Gateway
The Sydney Gateway is a major road interchange between the WestConnex and the airport terminals of Sydney Airport, and includes a pair of arch bridges over the Alexandra Canal and an eastbound flyover connecting Qantas Drive to the domestic terminal. It connects the Sydney Motorway network with the Sydney Airport and Port Botany precincts via the St Peters Interchange. The project provides significantly improved road links between the Airport, CBD and Port Botany, whilst reducing congestion. Construction began in early 2021 and sections of the interchange were progressively opened from November 2023. The interchange opened on 1 September 2024. City West Link
City West Link is a link road connecting Parramatta Road and the Western Distributor through the Inner West suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was bypassed by the WestConnex project upon its completion in November 2023. This name covers a few consecutive roads and is widely known to most drivers, but the entire allocation is also known – and signposted – by the names of its constituent parts: Wattle Street, Dobroyd Parade, City West Link proper and The Cresent. St Peters, New South Wales
St Peters is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 7 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district, in the Local government in Australia, local government area of Inner West Council, with a small section in the southeast in the City of Sydney. History St Peters was named by its association with St Peters Church, St Peters, St Peters Anglican Church, which was consecrated in 1838. Western Distributor is a grade-separated motorway that is primarily elevated for the majority of its route on the western fringe of the Sydney central business district. It links the southern end of Bradfield Highway at the Sydney Harbour Bridge to Victoria Road in Rozelle, at its western terminus near White Bay. It is a constituent part of the A4 route.
