Wellcome–MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute
The Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI) at the University of Cambridge is a research centre specializing in the nature and potential medical uses of stem cells. It is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in Cambridge, England and was originally funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council. The Institute is part of the School of Clinical Medicine and the School of Biological Sciences at the university. In addition to research, the Institute also offers higher education opportunities to train the next generation of clinical and nonclinical stem cell scientists. CSCI'postgraduate programoffers: a PhD in Stem Cell Biology, a Master’s degree (MPhil) in Stem Cell Medicine, and a Master’s degree (MPhil) in Biological Science. Madeline Lancaster
Madeline Lancaster is an American developmental biologist studying neurological development and diseases of the brain. Lancaster is a group leader at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. Education Lancaster was an undergraduate student at Occidental College in Los Angeles from 2000 to 2004 where she studied biochemistry. She then went on to complete a PhD with Joseph Gleeson at the University of California, San Diego in 2010. Career and research Lancaster conducted her post-doctoral work in the lab of Jürgen Knoblich at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Vienna, Austria. Muzlifah Haniffa
Muzlifah Haniffa is a Malaysian dermatologist and immunologist who focuses on the development of the immune system and the use of single-cell techniques to understand biology. Haniffa is a professor and Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University. Early life and education Haniffa was born in Penang, Malaysia. Richard Gilbertson
Richard James Gilbertson is a Senior Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, University of Cambridge. He is the Li Ka Shing Chair of Oncology, and Director of the CRUK Cambridge Major Centre and the Children's Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence. Sarah Franklin
Sarah Franklin (born 1960) is an American anthropologist who has substantially contributed to the fields of feminism, gender studies, cultural studies and the social study of reproductive and genetic technology. She has conducted fieldwork on IVF, cloning, embryology and stem cell research. Her work combines both ethnographic methods and kinship theory, with more recent approaches from science studies, gender studies and cultural studies. Allan Bradley FRS is a British geneticist at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Fiona Watt
Fiona Watt, (born 28 March 1956) is a British scientist who is internationally known for her contributions to the field of stem cell biology. In the 1980s, when the field was in its infancy, she highlighted key characteristics of stem cells and their environment that laid the foundation for much present day research. Watt is the Director of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).
