Weihenstephan Standards
The Weihenstephan Standards ("Weihenstephaner Standard" in German), also referred to as "WS" in shorthand, are communication interfaces for machine data acquisition. The standards were developed by a working group of machine manufacturers, plant suppliers, IT system vendors and technologists, under the guidance of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) at the Faculty of Food Packaging Technology in Weihenstephan, Germany. Weihenstephan libraries have been developed for production data acquisition in bottling and packaging plants (WS Pack), food industry plants (WS Food), in the bakery industry (WS Bake), and for processes within the brewing industry (WS Brew). These libraries are used to connect the plants industrial equipment within the production processes to higher-level management and control systems such as data acquisition systems (SCADA) or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). In the Weihenstephan Standards, the physical interface specification, specification of the i ...

Data Acquisition
Data acquisition is the process of sampling signals that measure real-world physical conditions and converting the resulting samples into digital numeric values that can be manipulated by a computer. Data acquisition systems, abbreviated by the acronyms ''DAS,'' ''DAQ,'' or ''DAU,'' typically convert analog waveforms into digital values for processing. The components of data acquisition systems include: * Sensors, to convert physical parameters to electrical signals. * Signal conditioning circuitry, to convert sensor signals into a form that can be converted to digital values. * Analog-to-digital converters, to convert conditioned sensor signals to digital values. Data acquisition applications are usually controlled by software programs developed using various general purpose programming languages such as Assembly, BASIC, C, C++, C#, Fortran, Java, LabVIEW, Lisp, Pascal, etc. Stand-alone data acquisition systems are often called data loggers. There are also open-source sof ...

Technical University Of Munich
The Technical University of Munich (TUM or TU Munich; german: Technische Universität München) is a public research university in Munich, Germany. It specializes in engineering, technology, medicine, and applied and natural sciences. Established in 1868 by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, the university now has additional campuses in Garching, Freising, Heilbronn, Straubing, and Singapore, with the Garching campus being its largest. The university is organized into eight schools and departments, and is supported by numerous research centers. It is one of the largest universities in Germany, with 50,000 students and an annual budget of €1,770.3 million (including university hospital). A ''University of Excellence'' under the German Universities Excellence Initiative, TUM is considered the top university in Germany according to major rankings as of 2022 and is among the leading universities in the European Union. Its researchers and alumni include 18 Nobel laureates and 23 L ...

Weihenstephan
Weihenstephan is a part of Freising north of Munich, Germany. It is located on the Weihenstephan Hill, named after the Weihenstephan Abbey, in the west of the city. Weihenstephan is known for: * the Benedictine Weihenstephan Abbey, founded 725, which established the oldest still-operating brewery in the world in 1040 (see History of beer). The brewery is now a company called '' Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan'' (Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, i.e. it is owned by the State of Bavaria) and closely related to the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and its graduate studies program for brewing and beverage manufacturing. * the site of one of the four campuses of the Technical University of Munich, namely the School of Life Sciences * the Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf * the , a formerly state-operated dairy that also closely cooperated with the TUM and its agricultural studies programme, but which has now been sold to the Müller dairy group. * the Sichtungs ...

SCADA
Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) is a control system architecture comprising computers, networked data communications and graphical user interfaces for high-level supervision of machines and processes. It also covers sensors and other devices, such as programmable logic controllers, which interface with process plant or machinery. Explanation The operator interfaces which enable monitoring and the issuing of process commands, like controller set point changes, are handled through the SCADA computer system. The subordinated operations, e.g. the real-time control logic or controller calculations, are performed by networked modules connected to the field sensors and actuators. The SCADA concept was developed to be a universal means of remote-access to a variety of local control modules, which could be from different manufacturers and allowing access through standard automation protocols. In practice, large SCADA systems have grown to become very similar to ...

Manufacturing Execution Systems
Manufacturing execution systems (MES) are computerized systems used in manufacturing to track and document the transformation of raw materials to finished goods. MES provides information that helps manufacturing decision-makers understand how current conditions on the plant floor can be optimized to improve production output. MES works as real-time monitoring system to enable the control of multiple elements of the production process (e.g. inputs, personnel, machines and support services). MES may operate across multiple function areas, for example management of product definitions across the product life-cycle, resource scheduling, order execution and dispatch, production analysis and downtime management for overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), product quality, or materials track and trace. MES creates the "as-built" record, capturing the data, processes and outcomes of the manufacturing process. This can be especially important in regulated industries, such as food and bev ...

Weihenstephaner Standard In Der Automatisierungspyramide
The Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan (''Bavarian State Brewery of Weihenstephan'') is a German brewery located on the site of the former Weihenstephan Abbey in Freising, Bavaria. In 2014, the total output was . The brewery advertises itself as "The World's Oldest Brewery". History Establishment Until the 1950s, the brewery described its date of foundation as the year 1146. At this time, a document allegedly dating to the year 1040 resurfaced. In it, Otto I, Bishop of Freising bestowed a brewing right upon the abbey. The document is generally dismissed as a forgery from the early 1600s. The first written record of the brewery dates to the year 1675. Another source, dating to 768, indicates the presence of a hops garden nearby. State Brewery In 1803, as part of a larger wave of German secularization, Weihenstephan Abbey was dissolved. The cloister passed into the ownership of the Bavarian government, where it was incorporated as the ''Königlich Bayerische Staatsbrauere ...

Brewmaxx
brewmaxx is a process control system for the brewing industry. The various process steps of a brewery can be automated, controlled and monitored via the software components of the brewmaxx range. Fields of application Due to its scalability, brewmaxx is suited to applications ranging from single station to multi-server systems. It is used in: * small breweries (up to 50 hectolitres per brew) * medium-sized breweries (up to 1 million hectolitres per annum) * large breweries (more than 1 million hectolitres per annum) The main fields of application include the automation of breweries (see brewery) and/or fermenting and storage cellars. Also a complete automation of all the production areas of a brewery (e.g. at Warsteiner Beer and Brewery) - from raw material intake to filling - can be realised with the brewmaxx process control systems. The “small” control system, brewmaxx compact, has been available for individual production areas, e.g. ancillary plants, water treatment, f ...
