We Are I.E.
"We Are I.E." is a song by British breakbeat hardcore producer Lennie De Ice. It was first recorded in 1989, but not released until 1991 when it appeared on a four-track EP from Reel 2 Reel Productions, one of a number of labels (and associated artists) that originated from the De Underground record shop based in Forest Gate, East London. It is often credited as one of, if not the first, tracks to lay down the foundations for jungle music. The track contains several samples, the most prominent being the Amen break and the vocal "We are i.e." from the Algerian song "N'Sel Fik" by Chaba Fadela and Cheb Sahraoui, as well as the "let me hear you scream" vocal from "The Bugger Groove" by the Buggers, a backspin sound from Simon Harris's "Beats, Breaks & Scratches", the riff from 808 State's "Fire Cracker", and finally a Western-style gunshot sound. Lennie De Ice
Lenworth Green (May 14, 1970 – December 10, 2024), better known as Lennie De Ice, was a British musician credited with pioneering jungle music with his 1991 track, " We Are I.E.". His other aliases include Body Snatcher and Lick Down Crew. De Ice was a member of music groups CIS Production, Dub Hustlers, and Madd-Ice. Early life and education Born in East London in 1970, Green attended school in Walthamstow and was inspired by hip-hop and electro groups Mantronix, Jonzun Crew and rapper Afrika Bambaataa. Music career In 1987, he began DJing rare groove and hip-hop with friend DJ ET, however, it was at the club The Dungeons on Lea Bridge Road, East London, where Green was introduced to acid house after attending a rave on Carpenters Road in Stratford. 808 State are an English electronic music group formed in 1987 in Manchester by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson. Taking their name from the Roland TR-808 drum machine and the "state of mind" the members shared, they released their debut album '' Newbuild'' in September 1988. Hard House
UK hard house or simply hard house is a style of electronic dance music that emerged in the early 1990s and is synonymous with its association to the Trade club and the associated DJs there that created the style. It often features a speedy tempo (around 150 BPM but hard house ranges from around 135 BPM to around 165 BPM), offbeat bass stabs, hoovers and horns. It usually contains a break in the middle of the track where no drums are present. UK hard house often uses a long and sharp string note to create suspense. Most of the time, the drops are introduced by a drum roll. Speed garage (occasionally known as plus-8) is a genre of electronic dance music, associated with the UK garage scene, of which it is regarded as one of its subgenres. Characteristics Speed garage features sped-up NY garage 4-to-the-floor rhythms that are combined with breakbeats. Snares are placed as over the 2nd and the 4th kickdrums, so in other places of the drum pattern. Speed garage tunes have warped, heavy basslines, influenced by jungle and reggae. Sweeping bass is typical for speed garage. It is also typical for speed garage tunes to have a breakdown. Speed garage tunes sometimes featured time-stretched vocals. Double 99, also known as R.I.P. Productions and 10° Below, were a UK garage duo which consisted of members Timothy Andrew Liken (Tim Deluxe) and Omar Adimora. They are best known for their sole UK chart hit single " RipGroove", which reached No. 14 in its second release on the UK Singles Chart in 1997. Career Active since 1995, the duo recorded as R.I.P.
