''Wanted!'' is a 1937 British comedy film directed by George King and starring Zasu Pitts, Claude Dampier and Mark Daly. It was made at Shepperton Studios as a quota quickie.Chibnall p.298 Premise The Oatfields, a married couple, are mistaken for jewel thieves and forced to go to a party. The husband accidentally turns on the burglar alarm and the real criminals are apprehended. George King (film Director)
George King (1899 – 26 June 1966) was an English actors' agent, film director, producer and screenplay writer. He is associated with the production of quota quickies. He helmed several of Tod Slaughter's melodramas, including 1936's ''The Demon Barber of Fleet Street''. Career King entered into the film industry after completion of medical studies. His first film ''Too Many Crooks'' featured a young stage actor named Laurence Olivier, also making his film debut. Once launched from routine thrillers, King made the usual array of lightweight comedies, romances and thrillers. With the outbreak of war, King directed some distinctly up-market war movies, most successful of which was ''Candlelight in Algeria'', a vehicle for James Mason. Zasu Pitts (; January 3, 1894 – June 7, 1963) was an American actress who starred in many silent dramas, including Erich von Stroheim's epic 1924 silent film ''Greed'', and comedies, transitioning successfully to mostly comedy films with the advent of sound films. She also appeared on numerous radio shows. Her career as an entertainer spanned nearly 50 years, and she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Her parents named her "ZaSu" as an amalgamation of the two maiden aunts she had been named for. Mark Daly (actor)
Mark Daly (23 August 1887 – 27 September 1957) was a British film actor. Daly was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 23 August 1887, making his first stage appearance in Swansea, Wales, in 1906. Six years later, in 1912, he made his first London stage appearance at the Shaftesbury Theatre. For three years, he was the principal comedian at The Fred Karno Company, a collection of comedians who worked in both British variety and American vaudeville. Other "Karno Comedians" included Charlie Chaplin and Billie Ritchie. During his time as an actor, Daly took part in excess of 25 motion pictures before his death on 27 September 1957 in England.
