Walnut Creek Open Space
Walnut Creek Open Space is a collection of parks and land owned by the city of Walnut Creek. It consists of four main areas: Shell Ridge, Lime Ridge, Acalanes Ridge, and Sugarloaf. History In the early 1970s, further Walnut Creek housing developments were proposed in the Mount Diablo foothills. Local activists worked with Walnut Creek City Council to get a bond measure for the city to purchase and preserve land put on the ballot of the June 1974 election, which voters approved. Old Borges Ranch
The Old Borges Ranch is a Historic District containing four contributing buildings, in the Diablo Foothills of the northern Diablo Range, within the Walnut Creek Open Space in Contra Costa County, California. The former ranch of early Walnut Creek pioneer Frank Borges is the home base for the surrounding Shell Ridge Open Space park's activities. It is located at 1035 Castle Rock Road, south of Walnut Creek. The Borges Ranch houses as a ranger station, maintenance facility, and ranger residence. Mount Diablo is a mountain of the Diablo Range, in Contra Costa County of the eastern San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California. It is south of Clayton and northeast of Danville. Briones Regional Park is a regional park in the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) system, located in the Briones Hills of central Contra Costa County of the San Francisco Bay Area in California. Geography The park is located in rolling hills of the East Bay region, near Martinez, Lafayette, Walnut Creek, and Pleasant Hill. The western end of Briones Regional Park is adjacent to the Briones Reservoir, operated by EBMUD across Bear Creek Road. The Transcontinental Airway System was a navigational aid deployed in the United States during the 1920s. History In 1923, the United States Congress funded a sequential lighted airway along the transcontinental airmail route.
