Wales competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4 to April 15, 2018. It is Wales's 21st appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1930. Swimmer Jazz Carlin was the country's flag bearer during the opening ceremony. Wales is one of six countries to have competed in every Commonwealth Games since 1930, the others being Australia at the Commonwealth Games, Australia, Canada at the Commonwealth Games, Canada, England at the Commonwealth Games, England, New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games, New Zealand and Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, Scotland. Olivia Breen
Olivia Breen (born 26 July 1996) is a Welsh Paralympian athlete, who competes for Wales and Great Britain mainly in T38 sprint and F38 long jump events. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics and was selected for the T38 100m and 200m sprint and was also part of the T35-38 women's relay team. She has also represented Wales at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games winning gold in the F38 Long Jump in 2018 and gold in the T37/38 100m in 2022 . Early life Breen was born in England to a Welsh mother and Irish father. Breen, who has cerebral palsy, began racing while still at primary school. Career Breen was given her T38 classification in January 2012, allowing her to be brought into contention for Paralympic selection. Gareth Irfon Evans (born 18 April 1986) is a Welsh weightlifter. He has competed in the 62 kg and 69 kg weight categories, and was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics. Early and personal life Evans was born to North Wales parents then resident in Dundee, Scotland, but the family moved back to their home in Holyhead, Anglesey before Evans started his schooling. Evans started weightlifting aged 12, when he joined the local Holyhead Weightlifting Club. Weightlifting at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast from April 5 to 9. The Olympic weightlifting, Weightlifting competition was held at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre. A total of eight men's and eight women's events were held. On 7 October 2016, it was announced that seven new events for women were being added to the sport program, meaning there would be an equal number of events for men and women.
