Triathlon at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held in the Southport Broadwater Parklands, Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast from April 5 to 7. A total of five events took place, two each for men and women and a mixed relay event. For the first time ever, para-triathlon events were contested at the Commonwealth Games. Southport Broadwater Parklands
The Southport Broadwater Parklands is a large community park located in Southport, Queensland, Southport. It is designed for large community gatherings and families. The park has many different areas for children and barbecue areas for families. The park went through a major redevelopment and was re-opened by the Premier of Queensland, Anna Bligh, on 23 August 2009. Southport Broadwater Parklands has become a popular family attraction. Getting here Public parking The Southport Broadwater Parklands is situated parallel to the Gold Coast Highway and opposite Australia Fair Shopping Centre. The park has several onsite car parks for visitors and on-street parking is also available along the Gold Coat Highway. Vicky Holland
Vicky Holland (born 12 January 1986) is a British former triathlete who was part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic team. Holland was the 2018 World Triathlon champion, the fourth British woman to win the title. She was also the first female triathlete to win an Olympic medal for Great Britain, a bronze in 2016, holding off housemate, compatriot and fellow world champion Non Stanford. A long-time fixture of the English and British mixed relay teams, she is also a 2-time World Mixed Team Champion, and a Commonwealth Games mixed relay champion. In 2021, aged 35 she competed once more in the women's event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, but finished off the podium, and was not selected for the mixed team relay. Lauren Parker (born 15 December 1988) is an Australian para-triathlete and para-cyclist. She won a silver medal (triathlon) at the 2020 Summer Paralympics and two gold (triathlon and cycling) and silver (cycling) medals at the 2024 Summer Paralympics. She has won multiple World Triathlon Championships in Women's PTWC. Personal life Parker was born on 15 December 1988 in Belmont, New South Wales. She lives in Newcastle, New South Wales. Emily Tapp
Emily Tapp (born 10 June 1991) is an Australian wheelchair Paralympic athlete and triathlete. She was selected to represent Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics in athletics but was forced to withdraw before the Games due to a burns injury. She represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in paratriathlon. Personal On 8 January 2011 Tapp had a campdrafting fall that left her a paraplegic. Jade Jones-Hall (born 4 January 1996), known previously as Jade Jones, is an English wheelchair racer, competing in T54 events, and a paratriathlete competing in handbike-to-wheelchair classifications. Bill Chaffey (paratriathlete)
Bill Chaffey (born 9 October 1975) is an Australian paratriathlete who won his fifth world championship in 2015. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics when paratriathlon made its debut at the Paralympics. Personal Chaffey became an incomplete paraplegic when, as a non-disabled triathlete training for an Ironman Triathlon, he was hit by a truck while on his bicycle. Nic Beveridge
Nic Beveridge (born 14 July 1986) is an elite Australian triathlete with a disability. He represented Australia at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games where he won a silver medal. He has competed at three Summer Paralympics. Personal Beveridge was born on 14 July 1986 in Gold Coast, Queensland. He grew up in Mackay and was an avid sports fan taking part in cross county, swimming, water polo and hockey before waking up in 2003 at the age of 17 to discover he was completely paralysed from the chest down. Joe Townsend
Joseph Townsend (born 27 March 1988) is a British paratriathlete who competes in the PTWC classification. Townsend has won European and world medals as well as becoming Commonwealth Champion in 2018. He represented Great Britain at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, where he finished sixth. Townsend has won the GBR Paratriathlon National Championships for four consecutive years- 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019. He lost both legs whilst serving in Afghanistan, after stepping on an IED in 2008. Andrea Hansen (née Hewitt, born 4 April 1982) is a New Zealand triathlete who placed third at the 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championships and competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2008, 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics.
