WIRY is an AM radio station licensed to Plattsburgh, New York. Plattsburgh ( moh, Tsi ietsénhtha) is a city in, and the seat of, Clinton County, New York, United States, situated on the north-western shore of Lake Champlain. The population was 19,841 at the 2020 census. The population of the surrounding (and separately incorporated) Town of Plattsburgh was 11,886 as of the 2020 census, making the combined population for all of greater Plattsburgh to be 31,727. WPLA (104.9 MHz, "104.9 Lake FM") is an FM radio station broadcasting a classic hits format, having switched over from Christmas music on December 27, 2020, and before that from classic country in November 2020. Licensed to LaFollette, Tennessee, United States, the station is owned by Loud Media LLC. History WTNQ was initially licensed as WQLA on August 2, 1982. It changed its callsign to WQLA-FM on November 1, 1991, and to WTNQ on May 16, 2008. On May 27, 2020, it was announced the station was to be acquired by Loud Media. On June 26, 2020, Loud Media took over the signal, which began stunting playing 60s-80s music with a pending launch of a new format. History The series began as a local program in Chicago, hosted by Carl Amari, who was the founder of Radio Spirits, Inc., which sells tapes and CDs of old time radio programs. Former CBS Radio executive Dick Brescia heard an in-flight version of the program, and soon mounted a nationally syndicated version of the show (through Dick Brescia Associates), beginning Jan. 1, 1990 and hosted by Art Fleming.
