WIFE-FM was a radio station broadcasting on 107.9 FM in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Owned and operated by the Star Stations group for most of its history, it broadcast from October 22, 1961, to September 2, 1976. History Indiana Broadcasting Company, owner of WISH (1310 AM), was granted a construction permit to build a new radio station on 107.9 FM in Indianapolis on July 21, 1960. Construction on WISH-FM, which would be the fourth commercial FM outlet in Indianapolis and one of the most powerful in the state, was underway by March 1961. Vance Hartke
Rupert Vance Hartke (May 31, 1919July 27, 2003) was an American politician who served as a Democratic United States Senator from Indiana from 1959 until 1977. Hartke won election to the Senate after serving as the mayor of Evansville, Indiana. In the Senate, he supported the Great Society and became a prominent opponent of the Vietnam War. Hartke ran for president in the 1972 Democratic primaries but withdrew after the first set of primaries. He left the Senate after being defeated in his 1976 re-election campaign by Richard Lugar. WNTR (107.9 FM) is a commercial radio station located in Indianapolis, Indiana. WNTR airs an adult contemporary format under the ownership of Cumulus Media. Its studios are located on North Meridian Street, and its transmitter tower is on the northwest side.
