WEAU (channel 13) is a television station licensed to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, United States, serving the La Crosse–Eau Claire market as an affiliate of NBC and The CW Plus. Owned by Morgan Murphy Media, the station maintains studios on South 6th Street in downtown La Crosse, and its transmitter is located on Silver Creek Road in Galesville, Wisconsin. History WKBT signed-on August 8, 1954, as a sister station to WKBH radio (AM 1410, now WIZM). In the call sign, the "T" for "television" replaced the "H" to differentiate the stations. WIAL
WIAL (94.1 FM) is a radio station in the Eau Claire area of Wisconsin, with its studio/offices located in Altoona, Wisconsin. Its transmitter is located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. History The station began in 1948 as an easy listening station with the call letters WEAU-FM. In 1959, the callsign was switched to WIAL, similar to "The Wonderful WAIL" (WAYL, now KXXR) in Minneapolis. On November 1, 1982, WIAL switched formats to become Adult Contemporary, in the wake of the transition of pop/rock formats from AM to FM stations and debuted the name "I-94" after Interstate 94 which runs along the south and west side of Eau Claire. Right when 1986 rolled along, the station upgraded its format to Top 40 to compete against WBIZ-FM. The NTA Film Network was an early American television network founded by Ely Landau in 1956. The network was not a full-time television network like CBS, NBC, or ABC. Rather, it operated on a part-time basis, broadcasting films and several first-run television programs from major Hollywood studios. Despite attracting over 100 affiliate stations and the financial support of Twentieth Century-Fox (which purchased a 50% share of NTA in November 1956), the network proved unprofitable and was discontinued by 1961. WEAQ (1150 AM) is a radio station in the Eau Claire area of Wisconsin, with its studio and offices located in Altoona, Wisconsin. Its transmitter is located in Lake Hallie, Wisconsin. History The station was originally WEAU at the 1050 AM frequency, switching to 790 in 1941. Call letters were switched to WEAQ upon a 1959 ownership change. Eventually, the station moved to Tower Drive on the northeast side of Eau Claire, playing pop music with occasional format switches to country, rock, adult contemporary and standards. WEAQ converted to sports talk in April 2002 with a near-full simulcast of ESPN Radio, and the rebranding as "ESPN 1150."
