Völkl Skis
Völkl (or Voelkl; ) is a German sports equipment brand, founded in 1923 in Straubing, Bavaria. The brand currently produces alpine skiing and tennis equipment and accessories. Since 2017, the Völkl ski brand has been part of Bellevue, Washington-based Elevate Outdoor Collective, a snowsports company held by private equity firm Kohlberg & Company. Elevate's other brands include Marker, Dalbello, and the K2 Sports group of brands. Völkl tennis racquets are produced by a separate company, Völkl Tennis, at a factory in Bogen, Germany. Product History Skiing In the 1910s, Franz Völkl began producing boats, sleds, and horse-drawn carriages under his name. His son Georg took over in 1923, producing the company's first skis. In the early 1950s, under Georg's leadership, the company became a leading European ski manufacturer. Jarden Action Sports at one time owned the Völkl and Marker brands. Stefan Luitz (; born 26 March 1992) is a German World Cup alpine ski racer. He primarily competes in giant slalom, but in January 2016 at Kitzbühel, Luitz completed both runs in slalom, a first in his World Cup career, and finished eighteenth. His only previous second run in slalom was more than three years earlier, in December 2012 at Madonna di Campiglio, where he failed to finish. Luitz made his World Cup debut at Adelboden in 2011, and attained his first podium in December 2012, a second place in giant slalom at Val d'Isère, France. Reece Howden
Reece Howden (born 12 July 1998) is a Canadian freestyle skier who competes internationally in the ski cross discipline. Career Junior At the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, Howden won the gold medal in the ski cross event and was Canada's flagbearer during the closing ceremony. Senior Howden won his first World Cup race in 2020, his rookie season. Howden would go on to win the crystal globe, awarded to the overall points leader per discipline for the 2020–21 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup season. During the season Howden won four races and had two other podium finishes. Howden had a fifth-place finish at the 2021 World Championships. Stefano "Sabo" Gross (born 4 September 1986) is a World Cup alpine ski racer from northern Italy. Born in Bozen, South Tyrol, Gross was raised in Pozza di Fassa in Trentino; he races in the technical events and specializes in the slalom. Career Gross made his World Cup debut at Alta Badia in December 2008, and his best results are three podiums in slalom in 2015, including a victory in Adelboden.
