Fagersta is a locality and the seat of Fagersta Municipality in Västmanland County, Sweden, with 11,130 inhabitants in 2010. Geography The city is located at the junction of two railways between Ludvika-Västerås and Avesta (Krylbo)-Örebro, in the heart of the historic Bergslagen region which is rich in copper and iron ore. The 60th parallel north passes through the town. History There has been mining activity in the Fagersta area since the 15th century but it was not organized until the 17th century and was not made a corporation until 1873, when Fagersta Bruks AB was founded. Fagersta was made a city in 1944 when the industrial hot spot of Fagersta merged with its service-oriented neighbour Västanfors. It is now the seat of Fagersta Municipality. The Fagersta airspace surveillance tower is a Second World War observation platform located to protect a nearby steel mill. Fagersta Municipality
Fagersta Municipality () is a municipality in Västmanland County in central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Fagersta. The ''City of Fagersta'' (instituted in 1944) was in 1967 merged with Västervåla parish (which had been part of Surahammar Municipality since 1963). In 1971 it was transformed into a municipality of unitary type. Localities The municipal seat, Fagersta, is the only locality within the municipality with more than 200 inhabitants. Another locality of note is Ängelsberg, a village located on Åmänningen Lake. Politics of Fagersta Fagersta is historically a left wing stronghold, with mostly a social democratic majority running the town, a trend only broken with a further left majority between 1998 and 2014. Anitra Steen
Anitra Linnéa Steen (; on 13 May 1949) is a Swedish politician, civil servant and the wife of former Prime Minister Göran Persson. Steen held various governmental roles since 1989: state secretary for Persson-led Ministry of Education and then for the Ministry of Finance, as well as director-general of the Council for Higher Education and the Tax Agency. Between 1999 and May 2009, when she retired, she was the manager of Systembolaget, the Swedish state alcoholic beverage retailing monopoly. In that role she was forced to cope with a full blown corruption scandal, involving bribery of shop managers and senior staff by some major suppliers, including Vin & Sprit, formerly the producing and importing division of the Swedish state monopoly. Göran Persson
Hans Göran Persson (; born 20 January 1949) is a Swedish politician who served as Prime Minister of Sweden from 1996 to 2006 and leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party from 1996 to 2007. Gustaf Rune Lindström (28 April 1916 – 25 April 1973) was a Swedish screenwriter and actor. He wrote for more than 30 films between 1942 and 1971. Biography Rune Lindström was a scriptwriter, poet, illustrator, director and actor. He had intended to become a priest and began studying theology at Uppsala University, but interrupted his studies when he had an unexpectedly great success with '' The Heavenly Play''. Lennart Hellsing
Paul Lennart Hellsing (5 June 1919 – 25 November 2015) was a Swedish writer and translator. For his lasting contribution as a children's writer, Hellsing was a finalist in 2010 for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award. Biography Born in Västanfors, Fagersta, Sweden, he was the son of the merchant Paul Hellsing and Sigrid Hellsing, née Rohloff, whose mother was from the West Indies. He was a prolific writer of children's literature, particularly known for his rhymes and word plays. He is considered an "outstanding poet" in the field of humour and nonsense writing. Per "Pelle" Almqvist (born 29 May 1978), also known as Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, is a Swedish singer and songwriter. He is the lead singer of garage rock band The Hives. Biography Almqvist was born to a doctor father and a teacher mother.
