Vivian Burrill
Vivian Burrill (1854-1937) was a local politician in Shawinigan, Quebec. He was the first mayor of Shawinigan. He was born in 1854 in Ireland and moved to Canada in 1872. Burrill sat on the city council from 1901 to 1913 and served as mayor of the city from 1901 to 1902 and from 1908 to 1913. He was in office when the first public infrastructures were laid out, including the first bridge to link Shawinigan and Shawinigan-Sud and a local plant owned by Northern Aluminum Co. claimed the first production of aluminum in Canadian history. Burrill moved to nearby Trois-Rivières in 1914 and died in 1937. Rue Burrill (Burrill Street), where Industrial Park #1 is located, was named to honour him. Shawinigan (; ) is a city located on the Saint-Maurice River in the Mauricie area in Quebec, Canada. It had a population of 49,620 as of the 2021 Canadian census. Shawinigan is also a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and Census geographic units of Canada, census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Shawinigan. Its geographical code is 36. Shawinigan is the seat of the Judicial districts of Quebec, judicial district of Saint-Maurice. The name Shawinigan has had numerous spellings over time: Chaouinigane, Oshaouinigane, Assaouinigane, Achawénégan, Chawinigame, Shawenigane, Chaouénigane. Shawinigan-Sud
Shawinigan-Sud is a predominantly French-speaking settlement in the Mauricie area in Quebec, Canada, on the Saint-Maurice River. In 1996, its population was 11,804. History Shawinigan-Sud was incorporated as a village in 1912 and was called Almaville until 1948. It developed primarily as a residential hub for Shawinigan. Its status was upgraded from village to town in 1961. Prior to the municipal reorganization in Quebec in 2002, Shawinigan-Sud was a separate municipality in the Le Centre-de-la-Mauricie Regional County Municipality. In January 2002, it was merged into the new City of Shawinigan. In colloquial language, the older and lower section of Shawinigan-Sud, closer to Saint-Maurice River, is called ''Almaville en bas''. Trois-Rivières (, ; ) is a city in the Mauricie administrative region of Quebec, Canada. It is located at the confluence of the Saint-Maurice River, Saint-Maurice and Saint Lawrence River, Saint Lawrence rivers, on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River across from the city of Bécancour, Quebec, Bécancour. Mauricie
Mauricie () is a traditional and current administrative region of Quebec. La Mauricie National Park is contained within the region, making tourism in Mauricie popular. The region has a land area of 35,860.05 km2 (13,845.64 sq mi) and a population of 266,112 residents as of the 2016 Census. Its largest cities are Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan. The word ''Mauricie'' was coined by local priest and historian Albert Tessier and is based on the Saint-Maurice river which runs through the region on a North-South axis. Arthur Dufresne
Joseph-Arthur Dufresne (1861-1933) was a local politician in Shawinigan, Quebec. He was the second mayor of Shawinigan. He was born in 1861 in Trois-Rivières, Mauricie and married to Georgiana Larouche, from Blind River, ONE.Proteau Famille directe. He moved to Shawinigan after he was offered a job by the Shawinigan Water & Power Company. He served as a council member in 1901 and 1902 and became mayor of the city in 1902. He left Shawinigan and moved back to Trois-Rivières in 1903. He became the owner of two hotels in Trois-Rivières QC. The first one (before the huge fire of June 1908 was on the "rue du Fleuve", the second one on the corner of the "rue des Forges" at "rue Royale". He died in 1933. Beaudry Leman
Beaudry Leman (January 2, 1878 – 1951) was a Canadian civil engineer, politician and banker. He was the third mayor of Shawinigan Falls, Quebec (1902–1908). He was general manager of the Banque d'Hochelaga (1914–1924) and general manager (1924–1933) and president (1934–1947) of the Banque Canadienne Nationale. Biography Engineering Jean-Baptiste-Beaudry Leman was born in 1878 in Montreal, the son of Joseph Leman (1842–1885), physician, and Polyxène Beaudry (1842–1917). From 1895 to 1899, he studied at université catholique de Lille, where he obtained the title of civil engineer. Joseph-Auguste Frigon (7 February 1870 – 14 February 1944) was a local entrepreneur and politician in the Mauricie area. He served as the fourth Mayor of Shawinigan, Quebec and as Member of the Legislative Assembly. Early life He was born in 1870 in Saint-Prosper, Mauricie, Quebec. Municipal Politics Frigon was Mayor of Saint-Narcisse, Quebec from 1896 to 1899. He moved to Shawinigan in the early 1900s for business reasons and ran for Mayor of that city against Beaudry Leman in 1902 but lost the election by a single ballot. Frigon ran again in 1913 and won.
