''Vive La Trance'' is the seventh studio album released by German Krautrock band Amon Düül II, released in 1973. Produced by Olaf Kübler and Amon Düül II and engineered by Peter Kramper, ''Vive La Trance'' was recorded and remixed at Bavaria Studios with additional remixing done at Union Studio München. The album sleeve's photography was done by Falk U. Rogner and Gena Zimmerman, with additional design and artwork by Jürgen Rogner. The song "Mozambique" is dedicated to the political revolutionary Monika Ertl. Amon Düül II
Amon Düül II (or Amon Düül 2, PronunciationAmon Düül are a German rock band formed in 1968. The group is generally considered to be one of the pioneers of the West German krautrock scene. Their 1970 album ''Yeti'' was described by British magazine ''The Wire'' as "one of the cornerstones of ... the entire Krautrock movement". Amon Düül II emerged from the radical West German Amon Düül art commune in Munich. The band's first album, '' Phallus Dei'', was released in 1969. Krautrock
Krautrock (also called , German for ) is a broad genre of experimental rock that developed in Germany in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It originated among artists who blended elements of psychedelic rock, avant-garde composition, and electronic music, among other eclectic sources. Common elements included hypnotic rhythms, extended improvisation, musique concrète techniques, and early synthesizers, while the music generally moved away from the rhythm & blues roots and song structure found in traditional rock music. Monika Ertl
Monika Ertl (17 August 1937 – 12 May 1973) was a German Bolivians, German-Bolivian Communism, communist militant and Guerrilla warfare, guerrilla fighter and the daughter of Nazi propagandist Hans Ertl (cameraman), Hans Ertl. She is most known for assassinating Colonel Roberto Quintanilla Pereira, the man responsible for chopping off Che Guevara, Che Guevara's hands. This successful assassination earned her the title 'Che Guevara's avenger' in Germany. She continued to serve as a soldier in the National Liberation Army (Bolivia), National Liberation Army (ELN), resisting the Bolivian government, until she was killed by Bolivian security services in 1973. Chris Karrer
Christoph Karrer (20 January 1947 – 2 January 2024) was a German guitarist and composer who also played saxophone, violin and oud. He was a pioneer of krautrock, playing and recording with his band Amon Düül II from 1969 when they released their first album '' Phallus Dei''. He wrote film scores and played them with the band; the music for Syberberg's ''San Domingo'' earned them the Deutscher Filmpreis for film music in 1971. From the 1980s Karrer played as a soloist and with Embryo, a band that combined elements of rock and jazz with music from Africa and India. Biography Christoph Karrer was born in Kempten on 20 January 1947. He played clarinet and saxophone from age 12. After his Abitur he studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. Mellotron
The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England, in 1963. It is played by pressing its keys, each of which causes a length of magnetic tape to contact a Capstan (tape recorder), capstan, which pulls it across a playback head. As the key is released, the tape is retracted by a spring to its initial position. Different portions of the tape can be played for different sounds. The Mellotron evolved from the similar Chamberlin, but could be mass-produced more efficiently. The first models were designed for the home and contained a variety of sounds, including automatic accompaniments. Bandleader Eric Robinson (conductor), Eric Robinson and television personality David Nixon (magician), David Nixon helped promote the first instruments, and celebrities such as Princess Margaret were early adopters.
