Vitreous Humor (band)
Vitreous Humor was an American alternative rock band formed in Topeka, Kansas, in the late 1980s by Danny Pound, Brad Allen, and Dan Benson. Described by AllMusic as "not easily categorized", the band was often referred to as "emo". History Originally a quartet, the band had a revolving door of bassists until in 1993, Allen opted to play the bass. The group stayed as a trio for a year until the band took in Brooks Rice as their bassist, allowing Allen to return to his role of guitarist. Their sound was an angular, noisy take on indie rock, often juxtaposing clean, jangly chords and minimal guitar lines with dissonant, distorted power chords, much in the vein of Sonic Youth. The band's first release was a self-titled 7-inch record, with three songs. Consequently, this was Crank! Records' first release as well. Topeka ( ) is the List of capitals in the United States, capital city of the U.S. state of Kansas and the county seat of Shawnee County, Kansas, Shawnee County. Nada Surf
Nada Surf is an American alternative rock band formed in New York City in 1992, consisting of Matthew Caws (guitar, vocals), Ira Elliot (drums), and Daniel Lorca (bass, backing vocals). After initially operating under the name Helicopter, Caws and Lorca switched to Nada Surf. In 1995, Ira Elliot joined on drums, and they met Ric Ocasek, former frontman of the Cars, who produced their debut album, '' High/Low'', in 1996. Despite experiencing significant success with their single " Popular" and touring extensively, their follow-up album, '' The Proximity Effect'', was not well received by their record label, Elektra, resulting in the band being dropped, and they self-released the album. Elektra Records (or Elektra Entertainment) is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt. Everclear is an American Rock music, rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1991. The band was formed by Art Alexakis, the band's lead songwriter, Lead vocals, vocalist, and guitarist, and for most of the band's height of popularity, consisted of Craig Montoya on bass guitar and Greg Eklund on drumkit, drums. Urge Overkill is an American alternative rock band, formed in Chicago in 1986, consisting of Nathan Kaatrud, who took the stage name Nash Kato (vocals/guitar), and Eddie "King" Roeser (vocals/guitar/bass). They are widely known for their song "Sister Havana" and their cover of Neil Diamond's " Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon", which was used in Quentin Tarantino's ''Pulp Fiction''. Archers of Loaf is an American indie rock band originally formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 1991. Boys Life was an American indie rock band from Kansas City, Missouri, formed in 1993. The band only released two albums during their original time together, but were foundational in the emo genre. Band members went on to form other bands such as Canyon and Lullaby for the Working Class. Brandon Butler has also released several albums of solo material under his own name and formed the band Six Bells in 2014, who released their debut album in late 2015. In 2015, the band announced a brief reunion tour to coincide with the vinyl-only reissue of its second full-length album. In 2024, Numero Group formally announced they would be reissuing the band's material.
