Hornberg (Virngrund)
The Hornberg is a hill ridge, about 2.5 kilometres long, with three ''kuppen'' that reaches a maximum height of making it the highest point of the Virngrund region in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Location and shape The ridge is a continuation of the small plateau around Ellenberg in the Württemberg county of Ostalbkreis, with which it is only linked by a narrow strip of land as a result of valleys to the west and east. It then runs west and in an increasing curve towards the west, finally heading southwest. Compared with the plateau it is only slightly, or even insignificantly prominent, the aforementioned valleys and, especially the northern foreland around Georgenstadt, however, lie some 60–80 metres lower down. Its three '' kuppen'' follow one another on the gently sloping ridgeline on the upper right, along which a forest track runs. Ellwangen Hills
The Ellwangen Hills () are a hill ridge, up to , in the counties of Schwäbisch Hall and Ostalbkreis in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The name of the range comes from the town of Ellwangen. The hills are known nationally especially because of the eponymous motorway services on the A 7. Geography Location The Ellwangen Hills belong to the Keuper Uplands and lie about 65 kilometres northeast of the city of Stuttgart and around 67 kilometres (both as the crow flies) east-southeast of the city of Heilbronn between the Haller Plain to the north, the Franconian Heights and the Virngrund to the east, the Härtsfeld to the south, the Frickenhofer Höhe to the southwest and the Limpurg Hills to the west. Wört () is a municipality (German: '' Gemeinde'') and town in the district of Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Geography Location Wört is located in the valley of the Rotach, a tributary of the Wörnitz River, in the Virngrund region. It is in the northeastern foothills of the Swabian Alb range, between Dinkelsbühl (6 km) and Ellwangen (13 km). Neighboring Towns The municipality is bordered to the north by Fichtenau, part of Schwäbisch Hall district, to the east by the Bavarian city of Dinkelsbühl, to the south by Stödtlen and to the west by Ellenberg. Ellwangen an der Jagst, officially Ellwangen (Jagst), in common use simply Ellwangen () is a town in the district of Ostalbkreis in the east of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. It is situated about north of Aalen. Ellwangen has 25,000 inhabitants. Geography Ellwangen is situated in the valley of the river Jagst, between the foothills of the Swabian Alb and Virngrund (ancient Virgundia) forest, the latter being part of the Swabian-Franconian Forest. The Jagst runs through Ellwangen from south to north. History The town developed in the 7th century as an Alamanni, Alemannic settlement in the Virgunna forest next to the Franconian-Swabian border. Location and boundaries The Franconian Heights lie in the west of Franconia on either side of the border between Bavaria in the east (with the districts of Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim and Ansbach) and Baden-Württemberg in the west ( Schwäbisch Hall and a small area of the Ostalbkreis). Bundesautobahn 7
is the longest German Autobahn and the longest national motorway in Europe at 963 km (598 mi). It bisects the country almost evenly between east and west. In the north, it starts at the border with Denmark as an extension of the Danish part of E45. In the south, the autobahn ends at the Austrian border. This final gap was closed in September 2009. Overview The Bundesautobahn 7 starts at Flensburg and travels through the two states at Schleswig and Rendsburg, through the world's busiest artificial waterway of Kiel Canal crossing the Rader high bridge.
