Virar (Pronunciation: iɾaːɾ is a coastal city in Palghar district, Maharashtra. The northern third of the city of Vasai-Virar, it is administered by Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation. It lies to the south of Palghar district, and to the north of the city of Mumbai. It is an important part of Palghar District because Palghar is the outermost part of northern side of Mumbai Metropolitan Region and comes under police jurisdiction of Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate. Virar railway station is one of the prominent railway stations on the Western Line of Mumbai Suburban Railway being the station on the line with high frequency of local-train transit for both ends, Palghar (Dahanu) as well as Churchgate (South Mumbai). As per provisional reports of Census of India, population of Virar in 2011 was 1,222,390; of which male and female were 648,172 and 574,218 respectively. Virar (Marathi pronunciation: iɾaːɾ station code: VR) is a railway station on the Western line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway network. History Virar was the northernmost station on the first regular suburban train service of the erstwhile BB&CI railway (today's Western Railway), that commenced on 12 April 1867 (from Bombay Backbay to Viraur). The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is a body of the Government of Maharashtra that is responsible for preparation oRegional Plan for MMRand the infrastructure development of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Samvedis or Samvedi Brahmins are an Indian Hinduism, Hindu Brahmin community, originating from a group of classical musicians and Indian classical dance, classical dancers. They follow Sama Veda and believed to have been originated from Odisha, India. Etymology Samvedis are also known as ''Shamedi'' near Vasai. It is a colloquial term from the original Sanskrit word Shamaneedresh (''Shaman = Entertainment'', ''Edresh = Attributed''), meaning those workers in the royal court entertaining the King.
