Villain Entertainment
Villain Entertainment is a record label, founded by rapper MC Ren, in Palm Springs, California in 2004. The label's focus was gangsta rap genre of West Coast hip hop. History Villain Entertainment was formed as a vehicle for releases by MC Ren, after he left Ruthless Records in 1999. After MC Ren's departure from Ruthless Records, the label inherited the rights to all of MC Ren's solo albums, including '' Kizz My Black Azz'', '' Shock of the Hour'', '' The Villain in Black'' and '' Ruthless For Life''. However, the rights to four of the albums are now licensed through Empire Distribution and Virgin Records/Universal Music Group (with ''Kizz My Black Azz'' being made on Priority) as they appear on streaming services under the Villain Entertainment label. Although established in 1999, the label remained dormant for a long period until a revival in 2009, with the release of MC Ren's album '' Renincarnated''. MC Ren
Lorenzo Jerald Patterson (born June 16, 1969), known professionally by his stage name MC Ren, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer from Compton, California. He is the founder and owner of the independent record label Villain Entertainment. MC Ren began his career as a solo artist signed to Eazy-E's Ruthless Records in early 1987, while still attending high school. By the end of 1987, after having written nearly half of ''Eazy-Duz-It'', he became a member of N.W.A. After the group disbanded in 1991, he stayed with Ruthless, releasing three solo albums including the controversial '' Shock of the Hour'' before leaving the label in 1998. In 2016, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of N.W.A. In 2024, he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award as a member of N.W.A. Hip-hop or hip hop (originally disco rap) is a popular music genre that emerged in the early 1970s from the African-American community of New York City. The style is characterized by its synthesis of a wide range of musical techniques. Hip-hop includes rapping often enough that the terms can be used synonymously. However, "hip-hop" more properly denotes an entire subculture. Other key markers of the genre are the disc jockey, turntablism, scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks. ''Renincarnated'' is the fourth album by rapper MC Ren, released October 31, 2009, on his own record label Villain Entertainment. The album marked MC Ren's comeback after not having released an album in eleven years since 1998's ''Ruthless for Life''., The album was a download-only album, with no physical edition currently available. It is his first album since he declined a major label deal in 2002 off the back of a series of high-profile appearances on hit albums for Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. Commercial performance The album went on to sell 650 digital downloads in its first week after which it sold more than 3,000 digital copies in the US.
