Victor Matfield
Victor Matfield (born 11 May 1977) is a South African former professional rugby union player. He played for and South African rugby union captains, captained the South Africa national rugby union team, South Africa national team (Springboks) as well as the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup and the Bulls (rugby union), Bulls franchise in Super Rugby. He is generally considered one of the best Lock (rugby union), locks to have ever played for South Africa and had a long successful partnership with Springbok and Blue Bulls teammate Bakkies Botha. Matfield was known for his success at disrupting opposition line-out (rugby union), line-outs – this skill was a cornerstone of their 2007 World Cup success, where he was crowned IRB (International Rugby Board) player of the Rugby World Cup. The Lions (known as the Emirates Lions for sponsorship reasons) is a South African professional rugby union team based in Johannesburg in the Gauteng province. They competed in the Super Rugby competition until 2020, and have competed in the United Rugby Championship since 2021. They are the successor of the teams known as Transvaal ( 1996), Gauteng Lions ( 1997) and the Cats ( 1998– 2006). Griquas (), known as the Suzuki Griquas for sponsorship reasons, are a South African professional rugby union team based in Kimberley in Northern Cape, that participates in the annual Currie Cup tournament. Their home ground is Griqua Park in Kimberley and they draw their players mostly from Northern Cape Province. They have won the Currie Cup three times – in 1899, 1911 and 1970 – and the Vodacom Cup a joint-record five times. Bobby Skinstad
Robert Brian Skinstad (born 3 July 1976) is a former rugby union professional player who has represented the South Africa national team, the Springboks. He played in the positions of flanker and number eight. Early life and education Skinstad is of British and Irish descent, and his surname is of Norwegian origin. He lived in Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal, while he attended Highbury Preparatory School in the nearby town of Hillcrest. He also attended Fores in Rondebosch, before boarding at Hilton College. His university studies took him to Stellenbosch University where he lived in the Simonsberg men's residence and captained the "Maties" (University) 1st side. Craven Week
The Craven Week is an annual rugby union tournament organised for schoolboys in the Republic of South Africa. The tournament started in July 1964, and is named after the legendary Springbok rugby union player and coach Dr Danie Craven. The tournament has its humble beginnings in an idea by Piet Malan, then Springbok flanker, in 1949, around the time of the South African Rugby Board's 75th anniversary. He wanted schools to feature in the celebrations and approached Danie Craven in Potgietersrus on how this could be done. Dr Craven took the idea to his board who decided on getting the 15 schools unions together for a week. The man who kept the idea alive however was one Jan Preuyt, a former student at the University of Stellenbosch and teacher at Port Rex Technical School in East London. Line-out (rugby Union)
A line-out or lineout is a means by which, in rugby union, play is restarted after the ball has gone into touch (rugby), touch. When the ball goes out of the field of play, the opposing team is normally awarded a line-out; the exception is after the ball is kicked into Touch (rugby), touch from a penalty (rugby union), penalty kick, when the team that was awarded the penalty throws into the line-out. In 2021 World Rugby began trialling what was dubbed the "50:22" (or "50–22") rule, wherein the kicking team has the throw-in if the ball travels from the kicker's half and bounces beyond the opposing 22-metre line. This was inspired by rugby league's 40/20 kick. A line-out is formed by players from each team lining up inside the touchline, at 90° to it.
