Vera Csapody (1890–1985) was a Hungarian botanist, author, and botanical illustrator known for studying and painting the flora of Hungary with Sándor Jávorka. Botanical Illustrator
Botanical illustration is the art of depicting the form, color, and details of plant species, frequently in watercolor paintings. They must be scientifically accurate but often also have an artistic component and may be printed with a botanical description in books, magazines, and other media or sold as a work of art. Often composed by a botanical illustrator in consultation with a scientific author, their creation requires an understanding of plant morphology and access to specimens and references. Typical illustrations are in watercolour, but may also be in oils, ink or pencil, or a combination of these. Sándor Jávorka
Sándor Jávorka (12 March 1883 - 28 September 1961) was a Hungarian botanist. His birthplace was Hegybánya, then in the Kingdom of Hungary, now in Slovakia and now called Å tiavnické Bane. He died in Budapest. Occasionally he has been referred to as Alexander Jávorka; the Hungarian style of his name is Jávorka Sándor. Life and work After attending school in Selmecbánya (now called Banská Å tiavnica), Sándor Jávorka studied at the University of Budapest and graduated in 1906 with a thesis on the genus '' Onosma''. Since 1905 he was employed in the Department of Botany of the Hungarian National Museum, where he worked until 1940, latterly as its director. Even after retirement, he remained there still active. In 1939 he became a professor at the University of Budapest. In 1936 he became a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and seven years later a permanent member. Hungarian Natural History Museum
The Hungarian Natural History Museum ( hu, Magyar Természettudományi Múzeum) in Budapest, dating back to 1802, houses the largest natural history collections of Hungary and the region. History of the museum Foundation In 1802, Count Ferenc Széchényi offered his library and his numismatic collection for the benefit of the Hungarian nation, so as to establish the base of a future national library, and a scientific and education center. This foundation gave rise to the Hungarian National Museum (and the Széchényi Library). Within the museum, the mineral collection of Julianna Festetics, the wife of the count, served as the origin of the future natural history collections. The first paleontological collection was a gift of Archduke Rainer in 1811, and the first zoological collection was bought in the same year.
