Vastine
Alexis Vastine (17 November 1986 – 9 March 2015) was a French boxer who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the Light Welterweight division. He also competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics, where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals in a controversial decision. He died in the Villa Castelli helicopter collision during the filming of French TV reality show '' Dropped'' for the TF1 network. Career At the 2004 junior world championships, Vastine was knocked out by Britain's Amir Khan at lightweight and won bronze. At the 2007 senior world championships in Chicago, he was outpointed by Britain's Bradley Saunders at junior welter but qualified for the Olympics. At the 2008 Olympics, Vastine reached the semifinal where he faced Manuel Félix Díaz from the Dominican Republic. Boxing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Light Welterweight
The light welterweight amateur boxing competition was the median weight class at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The competition was held at the Workers Indoor Arena. Light welterweights were limited to a maximum of 64 kilograms in body mass. Like all Olympic boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. Both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals, so no boxers competed again after their first loss. Bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches scored only if the white area on the front of the glove made full contact with the front of the head or torso of the opponent. Five judges scored each bout; three of the judges had to signal a scoring punch within one second for the punch to score. The winner of the bout was the boxer who scored the most valid punches by the end of the bout. Bradley Saunders
Bradley Saunders (born 4 February 1986) is a British professional boxer. As an amateur, he won a silver medal in the light welterweight division at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, gold at the 2009 EU Championships and bronze at the 2007 World Championships. Amateur career Saunders won the British championships in 2006 whilst representing South Durham ABC.. He qualified for the 2007 World championships held in Chicago and won a bronze medal defeating the likes of local favourite Javier Molina(24:12) and Frenchman Alexis Vastine in order to join compatriots Frankie Gavin and bantam Joe Murray on the medal podiums and, in doing so, qualifying for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Villa Castelli Helicopter Collision
On 9 March 2015, two Eurocopter AS350 Écureuil helicopters collided mid-air near Villa Castelli, Argentina, killing all ten people on board both aircraft. The helicopters had just departed together from the same spot and collided during the initial climb-out. They were transporting production staff and French sports stars participating in the French reality TV series ''Dropped''. Among the victims were French sailor Florence Arthaud, swimmer Camille Muffat and boxer Alexis Vastine. Egidijus Kavaliauskas (born June 29, 1988) is a Lithuanian professional boxer.
