Gamvik Municipality
() is a municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Mehamn. The other notable villages in Gamvik include Gamvik and Skjånes. Gamvik is known as one of the poorest and most undeveloped municipalities in Norway. The number of inhabitants rose at one moment in 2012, but in 2014, after the fish factory closed, the population declined dramatically with the departure of the eastern European fishermen. Most people live in the village of Mehamn (about 500 inhabitants), which has an airport, Mehamn Airport, and is also a port of call of the hurtigruten coastal boats. The Slettnes Lighthouse near the village of Gamvik is the northernmost lighthouse on the mainland of Europe. Jan Martin Smørdal (born 14 October 1978 in Horten) is a Norwegian composer, arranger, producer and guitarist. Smørdal holds a master's degree in Jazz Performance, and composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music and has studied with Henrik Hellstenius and Lasse Thoresen. As a guitarist, Smørdal has contributed to a number of releases, both in band as well as solo settings, and has been a member of the live bands of Hanne Hukkelberg, Navyelectre and Rockettothesky (Jenny Hval). As a producer, Smørdal has worked with such performers and composers as Torgeir Vassvik, Rockettothesky, Nils Henrik Asheim and Siri Nilsen. Smørdal has contributed to a number of releases that have been bestowed with a Spellemannprisen Award. Arve Henriksen (born 22 March 1968) is a Norwegian trumpeter. Career Henriksen was born in Stranda Municipality and educated on the Jazz program at Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige Universitet, Trondheim Musikkonservatorium; he later studied music pedagogy, while he played in Bodega Band (1987–88), Luft (1987–89), Veslefrekk from 1989, Close Enough 1990–92, Nutrio from 1990, and recorded with Bjørn Alterhaug and Tre Små Kinesere (1990). After graduating in 1991, he joined the Trio Midt-Norge and Piggy Bop. Frame Drum
A frame drum is a drum that has a drumhead width greater than its depth. It is one of the most ancient musical instruments, and perhaps the first drum to be invented. It has a single drumhead that is usually made of rawhide, but man-made materials may also be used. Some frame drums have mechanical tuning, while on many others the drumhead is tacked in place. The drumhead is stretched over a round, wooden frame called a shell. The shell is traditionally constructed of rosewood, oak, ash etc. that has been bent and then scarf jointed together; though some are also made of plywood or man-made materials. Metal rings or jingles may also be attached to the frame. In many cultures larger frame drums are played mainly by men in spiritual ceremonies, while medium-size drums are played mainly by women.
