Vangede
Vangede is a suburb 8 km north of central Copenhagen, Denmark. This area is primarily made up of one and two family houses and two and three story apartment buildings. History The first known references to the village is from 1346 when it is referred to as ''Wangwethæ''. Landmarks Munkegaard School was completed in 1953 to a design by Arne Jacobsen. Vangede Church is from 1974 and was designed by Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, who would later also design the Grande Arche in Paris. Vangede Battery has been converted into a park. Transport Vangede has three S-train-stations, Vangede, Kildebakke and dyssegård, all three of them are located on the Farum radial. Vangede is served by both the A and H trains while Dyssegård is only served by A trains. Some would consider Dyssegård being located in Dyssegård and not in Vangede. Vangede station is a station on the Farum radial of the S-train network in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located in the Vangede district of Gentofte Municipality. History Vangede Station was not one of the original stations of the Slangerup Line. It was created in 1906 and the first station building was a red brick building designed by Heinrich Wenck Heinrich (Henry) Emil Charles Wenck (10 March 1851 – 3 February 1936) was a Danish architect, known for the numerous railway stations he designed in his capacity of chief architect for the Danish State Railways from 1894 to 1921. Dan Turèll
Dan Turèll (March 19, 1946 – October 15, 1993), affectionately nicknamed "Onkel Danny" (''Uncle Danny''), was a popular Danish writer with notable influence on Danish literature. Influenced by the Beat Generation his work crossed a number of genres including autobiography, Beat literature and crime fiction. Overview Dan Turèll grew up in Vangede, which at that time was a town outside Copenhagen surrounded by fields; today it is a part of Greater Copenhagen. He died from esophageal cancer and is buried at Assistens Cemetery. On Sunday March 19, 2006, on what would have been his 60th birthday, part of the town square of ''Halmtorvet'' in Copenhagen was named ''Onkel Dannys Plads'' (English: ''Uncle Danny's Square'') in Dan Turèlls honour and remembrance. Vangede Battery
Vangede Battery (Danish: Vangede Batteri), located in Vangede, Gentofte Municipality, is a former military structure and current park in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. History Vangede Battery was constructed in 1888 as part of Copenhagen's new ring fortification and was to guard the area between Lyngby Fort and GarderhøjFort. The structure was dug into a hill located just west of the village of Vangede. It was 350 metres long and had a crescent shape with a dry moat located in front of it. It contained a barracks building with four residential rooms for officers and private soldiers as well as a munition magazine. The battery was equipped with two 1+-trunk machine guns and nine 12 cm canons. The battery was decommissioned along with the rest of the fortifications in 1920. H (S-train)
H is an S-train service in Metropolitan Copenhagen, Denmark that serves mainly the outer part of Frederikssundbanen, running partially non-stop between Ballerup and Flintholm. It is one of the six base lines of the S-train network, running every 20 minutes all days from about 5:00 until 1:00. It is the only base line in the network whose frequency is not doubled in the daytime; instead approximate 10-minute service on the outer part of the radial is provided by extending some trains on service C from Ballerup to Frederikssund. On Friday and Saturday nights there is also a 30 minutes service throughout the night. Johan Otto Von Spreckelsen
Johan Otto von Spreckelsen (4 May 1929 — 16 March 1987) was a Danish architect, best known for designing the Grande Arche of La Défense in Puteaux, near Paris. He directed the creation of several modern churches in Denmark. Life He was born in Viborg and studied at the Viborg Katedralskole and Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. He later became associate professor at the Academy and from 1978 he was professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. He later served as director up to the time of his death. Peer Hultberg
Peer Hultberg (8 November 1935 – 20 December 2007) was a Danish author and psychoanalyst. Peer Hultberg was born in Vangede northwest of Copenhagen and lived in Horsens and Viborg during his child and teenage years. From 1953 he studied at the University of Copenhagen (French, musicology and Slavic languages). He lived for some years in Skopje and Warsaw and then moved to London in 1959. He continued his studies of Slavic languages at the University of London and achieved a B.A. in 1963. Hultberg was a lecturer of Polish language and literature at the University of London for a couple of years while writing his thesis on the literary style of Wacław Berent. Having received his Ph.D., he moved back to his native country as a lecturer of the same subject at the University of Copenhagen in 1968. In 1973 he started studying Analytical psychology at the C. Hareskovbanen
Hareskovbanen (English: ''the Hareskov line'') is one of six radial S-train lines in Copenhagen. It connects the city center to a number of northwestern suburbs and the cities of Værløse and Farum, with the terminus placed in the latter. History The line was opened in 1906 as part of the private ''København-Slangerup Jernbane'' which went to Slangerup, about two thirds from Farum to Frederikssund.
