Eck En Wiel
Eck en Wiel is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Buren, and lies about 9 km southwest of Veenendaal. Overview Eck was first mentioned in 953 as Eki. The etymology is unclear. Wiel was first mentioned in 1347 as Wiele, and means "pond created by a dike breach". The settlement appeared along the Nederrijn, and developed into a linear settlement along the road. The first church was built in 1266, but was destroyed around 1363 in a feud between Bronckhorst and the van Heeckeren families. The tower of the current Dutch Reformed Church was constructed in the 14th century and was renewed in 1837. The church itself dates from the early 16th century. In 1840, Eck was home to 518 people and Wiel to 125 people. During the 19th century, the two villages were referred to as the single entity "Eck en Wiel". Gelderland (), also known as Guelders () in English, is a province of the Netherlands, occupying the centre-east of the country. Caroline Alexandra van Eck (born 22 July 1959) is a Dutch art historian and academic, specialising in the art and architecture of the early modern period. Since 2016, she has been Professor of Art History at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge. She was Professor of Art and Architecture before 1800 at Leiden University from 2006 to 2016, and previously taught at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Groningen. Cornelis van Eck (1662–1732) was a Dutch jurist and poet. Born in Arnhem, he studied literature in Utrecht and law in Leiden, attaining his doctorate under Johannes Voet Johannes Voet, also known as John Voet (3 October 1647 – 11 September 1713) was a Dutch jurist whose work remains highly influential in modern Roman-Dutch law. Voet is one of the so-called "old authorities" of Roman-Dutch law, along with Hu ... in 1682. His dissertation, ''De septem damnatis legibus'', saw seven re-editions. He was called upon to teach in Franeker in 1686 and was appointed to a professorship in Utrecht in 1693. Jos van Eck (born 2 May 1963) is a Dutch former football manager and player. He is team manager of Jong Sparta, the under-21 team of Sparta Rotterdam. Playing career Van Eck played for De Graafschap, FC Zwolle, FC Den Bosch, Sparta Rotterdam, KFC Tielen and FC Dordrecht. Managerial career After retirement, he worked as an assistant coach, then manager at FC Dordrecht before Robert Verbeek took over in January 2004. Lubbert Jan Van Eck
Lubbert Jan baron van Eck (26 March 1719, Velp - 1 April 1765, Colombo) was the 31st Governor of Ceylon during the Dutch period in Ceylon. Van Eck was the son of Samuel van Eck (1691-1760) and Jacoba Wilhelmina Maria Couttis (c.1695-1740). He inherited the title "Baron" and "lord of Overbeek" from his father. He joined the Dutch East India Company in March 1732. From June 1740 to April 1741 he sailed as "undermerchant" with the ship "Huis van Foreest" to Batavia, Dutch East Indies. In June 1747 he departed to Negapatnam in southern India. By 1748 he had become opperhoofd of Porto Novo, In 1754 he became opperhoofd of Paliacatta. In 1758 he was appointed governor of Coromandel, which function he took in practise in April 1759. Pierre Vaneck (born Pierre Auguste Van Hecke; 15 April 1931 – 31 January 2010) was a French people, French actor. During his career, he won a Molière Award in 1988 and received a César Award nomination in 2009.
