Valery Bespalov
Valery Alekseyevich Bespalov (; ; born 21 September 1957) is an engineer who worked at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. After the Chernobyl disaster, he was one of the three men in the "suicide squad" team to drain the steam suppression pools under the fourth reactor building. In 2019 he was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine. Despite media reports claiming the three men died of radiation poisoning shortly after the incident, he remains alive in Kyiv as of 2019. Hero Of Ukraine
A Hero of Ukraine (HOU; ) is the highest national decoration that can be conferred upon an individual citizen by the president of Ukraine. The decoration was created in 1998 by President Leonid Kuchma. As of 6 June 2025, the total number of recipients had been 1109. Additionally, at least 29 decrees assigned have not been published. The decoration is granted to two classes of recipients: to civilians, the Order of the State () ; and to military recipients, the Order of the Gold Star (). Donetsk Oblast

Chernobyl liquidators were the civil and military personnel who were called upon to deal with the consequences of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in the Soviet Union on the site of the event. Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant
The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) is a nuclear power plant undergoing decommissioning. ChNPP is located near the abandoned city of Pripyat in northern Ukraine, northwest of the city of Chernobyl, from the Belarus–Ukraine border, and about north of Kyiv. The plant was cooled by an engineered pond, fed by the Pripyat River about northwest from its juncture with the Dnieper River. Originally named the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant of V. I. Philip Barantini (born 13 July 1980) is a British director, producer, screenwriter and actor. Boris Baranov
Boris Aleksandrovich Baranov (; ; 11 November 1940 — 6 April 2005) was an engineer at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and a Chernobyl liquidator. As a liquidator, he and two others were sent to drain the steam suppression pools under the fourth reactor building, thus preventing the reactor from exploding. Baranov lived almost 20 years after the Chernobyl disaster, passing away due to a heart attack in Kyiv, Ukraine, on 6 April 2005, aged 64.
