Urunani
Urunani BBC is a Burundian basketball club based in Bujumbura. Nicknamed ''"Sisi Wenyewe"'', the team plays in the Viva Basketball League (VBL). Since 1979, Urunani has won more than 17 national championships of Burundi (some years the national championship was not held for several reasons). History The name Urunani means "being together, a strong and indestructible network". The club played in the Basketball Championship Amateurs de Bujumbura (ACBAB) for the first time in 1979. Urunani BBC has already won three international competitions organized by the FIBA Zone 5. The club also played in the FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Viva Basketball League
The Burundian Basketball Championship (in French: Championnat National du Burundi), for sponsorship reason the Viva Basketball League, is a semi-professional basketball league that is the highest level of the sport in Burundi. The league is organised by the Fédération de Basketball du Burundi (FEBABU). In 2022, the league signed a 4-year sponsorship contract with malt drink producer Viva; the winners of the league win a prize money of 10 million FBu (approximately $4,800). The FIBA Africa Zone 5 Club Championship was a men's and women's basketball club competition for teams in FIBA Africa's Zone 5, which exists of teams in East Africa. Jean Jacques Boissy (born 28 January 2000) is a Senegalese basketball player who plays for REG and the Senegal national team. Playing at point guard, he is a graduate of the NBA Academy Africa and has played professionally since 2021. Boissy won the BAL championship in 2025, and was the MVP in the same year. He is also a two-time All-BAL First Team selection. Landry Ndikumana (basketball)
Landry Ndikumana Dukure (born 14 February 1995) is a Burundian basketball player for Pazi and the Burundi national team. He is a 1.98 m (6 ft 6 in) tall small forward and has played professionally in Burundi, Uganda and Tanzania. Ndikumana was the NBL Uganda MVP and Playoffs MVP in the 2019 season. Career Ndikumana started his career with Burundian team Urunani and impressed in the FIBA Zone V Championships, winning MVP twice in a row, in 2013 and 2014. Mamadou "Pabi" Guèye (born 29 September 1978) is a Senegalese professional basketball coach and former player who is the current head coach of Urunani BBC, Urunani and as an assistant for Senegal men's national basketball team, Senegal men's national team. He had a 20-year long playing career, of which the majority was in Senegal as well as three seasons in Morocco for Ittihad Tanger (basketball), Ittihad Tanger. BAL Qualifying Tournaments
The Road to BAL, also known as the BAL Qualifying Tournaments, are the qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). While the main tournament is co-organised by FIBA and the NBA, the organization of the qualifiers is completely done by FIBA. The first qualifying rounds began on 16 October 2019 during the 2021 BAL qualification. The qualifiers are geographically divided into the West and East Division, with three teams qualifying out of each division. Joe Guibert Nijimbere (born 26 December 1996) is a Burundian basketball player for Kepler and the Burundi national basketball team. Early life Nijimbere was born on 26 December 1996 in Mutanga-Nord, a suburb of Bujumbura, the largest city in the country. He was the second of 9 children. He grew up attending his father's Sunday league basketball games with his three brothers, all of whom ended up playing the sport. Nkosinathi Sandile Sibanyoni (bon May 24, 1998) is a South African professional basketball player for MBB of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and Basketball National League (BNL).
