Union Dutchmen Football
The Union Garnet Chargers comprise the 24 teams representing Union College in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, crew, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, and track and field. Men's only sports include baseball and football. Women's only sports include field hockey, golf, softball, and volleyball. History Prior to 2023, the college's teams were known as the "Dutchmen" and "Dutchwomen." The nickname was changed to "Garnet Chargers" as part of a branding update. Garnet has been the school's official color for 150 years, and the name "chargers" is a reference to "Schenectady’s legacy as a leader in electrical technologies." Affiliation The Garnet Chargers compete in the NCAA Division III and are members of the Liberty League for all sports except ice hockey, which competes in NCAA Division I as a member of ECAC Hockey. Union Garnet Chargers Men's Ice Hockey
The Union Garnet Chargers ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's college ice hockey program that represents Union College. The Garnet Chargers are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the Frank L. Messa Rink at Achilles Center in Schenectady, New York. The Garnet Chargers (known as the Dutchmen at the time) won the 2014 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey tournament by defeating the Minnesota Golden Gophers 7–4. Program history The hockey team was founded in 1904 making it the 7th oldest college program playing in NCAA Division I and provides the school with a long and colorful history in the sport. Keith Kinkaid
Keith Patrick Kinkaid (born July 4, 1989) is an American professional ice hockey goaltender for the Savannah Ghost Pirates of the ECHL while under contract to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Originally undrafted by teams in the National Hockey League (NHL), Kinkaid has previously played for the New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, and Colorado Avalanche. Playing career Born and raised in Farmingville, New York, Kinkaid graduated from Sachem High School East in 2007. Ashley Johnston
Ashley Johnston (born 17 July 1992) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defender and current assistant coach of the Premier Hockey Federation's Metropolitan Riveters. Known for her gritty, stay-at-home style of play as a shutdown defender, she was the first player to serve as team captain in Riveters history, a role she would hold for three years until her initial retirement. Shayne Gostisbehere
Shayne Gostisbehere ( ; born April 20, 1993), nicknamed "Ghost", is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). Gostisbehere was born in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and began playing hockey with the youth affiliate of the Florida Panthers. Halfway through high school, he transferred from Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Florida to South Kent School in South Kent, Connecticut. From there, he moved to Schenectady, New York, where he played three seasons of college ice hockey with the Union Dutchmen of the ECAC Hockey conference, helping to take the team to their first NCAA championship title in 2014. Israel National Baseball Team
The Israel National Baseball Team () represents Israel in international competitions. It is managed by Ian Kinsler. At the 2017 WBC, Team Israel came in 6th. In 2022, Israel was ranked 20th in the world. The Miami Marlins are an American professional baseball team based in Miami. Jake Layton Fishman (; born February 8, 1995) is an American-Israeli professional baseball pitcher for the Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Miami Marlins. Fishman was selected in the 30th round of the 2016 MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Union Garnet Chargers Women's Ice Hockey
The Union Garnet Chargers ice hockey team represents Union College in Schenectady, New York, United States. History From 1999 to 2003, the team competed in Division III hockey. In 2003, the team joined the ECAC. On February 20, 2010, senior Jackie Koetteritz, had played in her 125th game for the team, setting a record for the most games for the team. On November 4, 2011: Emilie Arseneault scored a short handed goal late into the second period to give the team a 2–1 conference victory over the Clarkson Golden Knights women's ice hockey program.
