Miami Marlins
The Miami Marlins are an American professional baseball team based in Miami. The Marlins compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (baseball), National League (NL) National League East, East Division. The team plays its home games at LoanDepot Park. The franchise began play as an 1993 Major League Baseball expansion, expansion team in the 1993 season as the Florida Marlins. The Marlins originally played home games at Hard Rock Stadium, Joe Robbie Stadium, which they shared with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). In 2012, the team moved to LoanDepot Park (then known as Marlins Park), their first exclusive home and the first to be designed as a baseball park. National League East
The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central, it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. After having internal, informal divisions for scheduling purposes during the pre-expansion era, the division was formally created when the National League (baseball), National League (NL) (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The National League's geographical alignment was rather peculiar as its partitioning was really more north and south instead of east and west. The 1993 Major League Baseball expansion resulted in Major League Baseball (MLB) adding two expansion teams to the National League (NL) for the 1993 season: the Colorado Rockies and the Florida Marlins (now known as the Miami Marlins). Joseph Paul DiMaggio (; born Giuseppe Paolo DiMaggio, ; November 25, 1914 – March 8, 1999), nicknamed "Joltin' Joe", "the Yankee Clipper" and "Joe D.", was an American professional baseball center fielder who played his entire 13-year career in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees. Carl Barger
Carl F. Barger (August 18, 1930 – December 9, 1992) was an American Pittsburgh attorney and baseball executive. Biography Barger became the President of the Pittsburgh Pirates Major League Baseball team, serving from 1987 through the beginning of 1991. He then became the first president of the Florida Marlins (now the Miami Marlins) on July 8, 1991. However, he would not live to see the new team take the field, as he suffered an aneurysm during MLB's Winter Meetings in 1992 in Louisville, Kentucky, and later died. On April 5, 1993, the day that the Marlins played their first regular-season game, the team retired the number 5 in Barger's memory, as his favorite player had been Joe DiMaggio, who wore the number 5 throughout his career. Rick Helling
Ricky Allen Helling (born December 15, 1970) is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher. Early life and college Helling attended Lakota High School in Lakota, North Dakota for three years, before graduating from Shanley High School in Fargo, North Dakota. He was a letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. In football, he was a three-time All-Conference honoree. In basketball, he led the state in scoring. Helling accepted a scholarship to play college football at North Dakota but redshirted as a freshman and transferred to Kishwaukee College during his first semester in order to play college baseball. He performed well enough at Kishwaukee to earn a baseball scholarship to Stanford University. While at Stanford he joined Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. Luis Castillo (second Baseman)
Luis Antonio Castillo (born September 12, 1975) is a List of Dominican Republic people, Dominican former professional baseball second baseman. He played in Major League Baseball for the Miami Marlins, Florida Marlins, New York Mets, and Minnesota Twins from 1996 through 2010. Castillo is a three-time Major League Baseball All-Star Game, All-Star, three-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award, Gold Glove winner, and won the World Series with the Marlins in 1997 and 2003 (although he did not play in the 1997 series). Jeffrey Guy Conine (; born June 27, 1966) is an American former professional baseball left fielder / first baseman and current front office assistant for the Miami Marlins, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 17 seasons, with six teams. An inaugural member of the Florida Marlins who was with the franchise for both of its World Series titles, he was nicknamed "Mr. Marlin" for his significant history with the club. Conine was born in Tacoma, Washington, played baseball at UCLA, and was drafted in the 58th round of the 1987 Major League Baseball draft by the Kansas City Royals.
