The principality of Liechtenstein is divided into eleven municipality, municipalities (', grammatical number, singular '), most consisting of only a single town. Peter Kaiser (historian)
Peter Kaiser (1 October 1793 – 23 February 1864) was a historian and statesman from Liechtenstein. Life Kaiser was born in Mauren, in the Principality of Liechtenstein as one of eleven children. He studied languages and history in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, Feldkirch, Vienna and Freiburg/Breisgau. Kaiser became known as a proponent of the rights of the common people or serfs in his home country. In 1820, during the Congress of Vienna, he promoted German unification and rights issues. Due to the unpopularity of this stand in an age of imperialism, he was subsequently forced out of Germany. Kaiser moved to Switzerland and became a professor in Hofwil (Bern). In 1836, he taught in Aarau and then in Disentis, in the Grisons. In 1843, Kaiser was appointed as a representative to Aloys II, Prince of Liechtenstein, Prince Alois in Vienna. History Of Liechtenstein
Political identity came to the territory now occupied by the Principality of Liechtenstein in 814, with the formation of the subcountry of Lower Rhætia. Liechtenstein's borders have remained unchanged since 1434, when the Rhine established the border between the Holy Roman Empire and the Swiss cantons. Antiquity The area that is now Liechtenstein was part of the Roman province of Rhaetia. A Roman road crossed the region from south to north, traversing the Alps by the Splügen Pass and, following the right bank of the Rhine at the edge of the floodplain, was uninhabited for long lengths of time because of periodic flooding. Roman villas have been excavated in Schaanwald and Nendeln. The late Roman influx of the Alemanni from the north is memorialized by the remains of a Roman fort at Schaan. Gebhard Schädler
Josef Gebhard Schädler (21 September 1776 – 20 November 1842) was a surgeon from Liechtenstein. Early life Schädler was born on 21 September 1776 as the son of surgeon Johann Georg Gebhard Schädler and his mother Maria Sabine Bayer as one of three children. He attended high school in Feldkirch and from 1796 to 1798 he studied medicine in the University of Freiburg, where he received a master's degree in surgery. Career Schädler fought as a member of the 20-man Liechtenstein volunteer corps against the French during the War of the First Coalition, where he was wounded in 1797. From 1799 to 1801 he was a regimental surgeon of a Graubünden regiment in the Netherlands. He was the first academically trained doctor in Liechtenstein and opened his own medical practice in Eschen in 1801, later in Nendeln. Johannes Kaiser (born 29 June 1958) is a politician from Liechtenstein who has served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein since 2001. He previously served as mayor of Mauren from 1991 to 2003. Career Kaiser was born on 29 June 1958 in Eschen as one of the five children of teacher Paul Kaiser and Brigitte Biedermann. He attended a teachers' training college in Rickenbach, Schwyz, and later trained in communication and management in St. Gallen. Oswald Bühler
Oswald Bühler (2 March 1899 – 8 December 1962) was a lawyer and politician from Liechtenstein who served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein from 1939 to 1945 and again from 1949 to 1957. David Bühler
David Bühler (6 February 1872 – 26 July 1938) was an accountant and politician from Liechtenstein who served as the mayor of Mauren from 1930 to 1933. He educated as an accountant in Dornbirn and Laa an der Thaya, then he worked as a legal agent in Mauren and also as a farmer. From 1923 to 1931 he was the president of the state tax commission. During his time as mayor, Bühler was responsible for raising funds for a community water supply and a church building fund. He resigned from the position in October 1933. Rudolf Matt (21 April 1877 – 26 July 1960) was a politician from Liechtenstein who served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein from 1922 to 1926 and again from 1939 to 1945. He previously served as Mayor of Mauren from 1921 to 1924. Life Matt was born on 21 April 1877 in Mauren as the son of Johann Jakob and Carolina Ritter as one of ten children. He conducted an apprenticeship in Feldkirch then worked in Schaan before traveling to Munich, Zurich and Mannheim.
