Oswald Bühler
Oswald Bühler (2 March 1899 – 8 December 1962) was a lawyer and politician from Liechtenstein who served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein from 1939 to 1945 and again from 1949 to 1957. He also served as the Mayor of Mauren from 1948 to 1962. Career Bühler was born on 2 March 1899 in Mauren as the son of accountant David Bühler and Wilhelmine Marock as one of four children. In 1918, he joined the Progressive Citizens' Party and from 1936 to 1939 he was a member of the Mauren municipal council. Throughout the 1930s, he as a prominent opponent of fascist elements within Liechtenstein, such as the Liechtenstein Homeland Service and German National Movement in Liechtenstein. At some point, Bühler took over his father's legal firm. He was elected to the Landtag of Liechtenstein in 1939 as a member of the Progressive Citizens' Party as a part of the unified list between the party and the Patriotic Union for the formation of a coalition government. 1945 Liechtenstein General Election
General elections were held in Liechtenstein on 29 April 1945. Following the "silent elections" of 1939, they were the first to use the new proportional representation system. The Progressive Citizens' Party won eight of the 15 seats in the Landtag, but remained in coalition with the Patriotic Union. Voter turnout was 94.1%, although only male citizens were allowed to vote. The elections were originally set to be held in 1943, as per the constitution of Liechtenstein. However, at the request of both parties, Franz Joseph II extended the government's term indefinitely while there was ongoing threat from Nazi Germany, primarily to prevent the German National Movement in Liechtenstein (VDBL) from gaining seats in the Landtag. Liechtenstein Red Cross
The Liechtenstein Red Cross (German: '), or LRK, is the national Red Cross society for Liechtenstein. It conducts humanitarian aid in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross. The LRK was formed on 30 April 1945 under the initiative of Princess Gina of Liechtenstein due to the number of war refugees in Liechtenstein following the end of World War II. It was recognised as a Red Cross society on 22 June 1945 and was headed by Princess Gina until 1985, then Countess Marie Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau until 2015, and since then by Sophie, Hereditary Princess of Liechtenstein.
