Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) was constituted on dated 25.08.1980 under the Companies' Act 1956 for construction of new thermal power projects in the state sector. On 14 January 2000, in accordance to U.P. State Electr Reforms Acts 1999 and operation of U.P. Electricity Reforms Transfer Scheme 2000, U.P. State Electricity Board (U.P.S.E.B.), till then responsible for generation, transmission and distribution of power within the state of Uttar Pradesh, was unbundled and operations of the state sector thermal power stations were handed over to UPRVUNL. Unchahar Thermal Power Station - 420 MW (2X210) & Tanda Thermal Power Station 440 MW (4X110) were transferred to NTPC in year 1992 & year 2000 respectively before unbundling of U.P. Anpara Thermal Power Station
Anpara Thermal Power Station is located at Anpara in Sonbhadra district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, about from Varanasi on the Varanasi - Shakti Nagar route. It has a total power-generation capacity of 3850 MW using 9 units. Operations There are in total nine operational units, all of which are coal-fired thermal power stations. The machinery for the UPRVUNL's Anpara A ( 3 units of 210MW each) are from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. UPRVUNL'S Anpara B (two units of 500 mW each) from Toshiba Corporation, Japan. Machinery for Anpara C were sourced by Lanco power from Dongfang Electric Company (China). Machinery for UPRVUNL'S Anpara D (2 units of 500 MW Each) is sourced from BHEL. Panki Thermal Power Station is located at Panki in Kanpur Uttar Pradesh. Its first stage was commissioned in 1967 by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. It has an installed capacity of 660 Mega Watts. The power plant is owned and operated by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam. Harduaganj Thermal Power Station is located at Qasimpur Power House Colony which is 1 km distance from Harduaganj railway station at Harduaganj in Aligarh district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, about 18 km from Aligarh and 105 km from Agra. It is the new electric power station established in Aligarh district; the old one is Sumera Hydroelectric Power Plant located in Jawan Sikandarpur of Aligarh district.
