Tvøroyri Kirkja
Tvøroyri is a village on the north side of the Trongisvágsfjørður on the east coast of Suðuroy island in the Faroe Islands. Together with Froðba, Trongisvágur, LÃðin and ØravÃk it forms Tvøroyri Municipality. The village is considered to have been founded in 1836, when the Royal Danish Monopoly Trade Store was founded on a small tongue of land, called Tvøroyri. In a short span of years, Tvøroyri grew into a large village, mainly after 1856 when the monopoly state of the store was abolished. Around the turn of the 20th century, Tvøroyri was one of the largest towns on the Faroe Islands and had one of the main fishing industries. MS Smyril
The ''Smyril'' is a passenger and car ferry owned and operated by the Faroese transport company Strandfaraskip Landsins. She is the largest ferry in the fleet and the fifth vessel to carry the name Smyril, which is the Faroese word for merlin. The ferry takes 200 cars and 975 passengers. The ferry services Suðuroy with 2-3 daily trips from Tórshavn to Krambatangi. The trip takes 2 hours and 5 minutes. Strandfaraskip Landsins meets all arrivals and departures with buses to Vágur, Tvøroyri and Hvalba, while dial-a-ride services link the ferry to/from other villages, including Fámjin. Jacob Haugaard
Daniel Jacob Haugaard (born 12 May 1952) is a Danish-Faroese comedian, actor, musician, composer, writer, TV host and former representative in the Danish Parliament. Activities Jacob Haugaard has been a well-known performer in Denmark for many years, mixing comedy, singing and instrumental music in his own unique style. He is usually dressed in an ever-changing range of gaudy suits, and often plays a home-made guitar for which he is well known. He has recorded many music records and CDs since 1977. Haugaard has also produced radio, films and TV, mostly comedy and sketches and has a long history of close cooperation with comedian and entertainer Finn Nørbygaard, since 1984. Jóannes Dan Eidesgaard (born 19 April 1951) is a former Faroese politician. He was the prime minister of the Faroe Islands from 2004, starting shortly after the general election of 20 January 2004, until 26 September 2008, when a new coalition took office. He served as finance minister from 1996 to 1998 and again from 2008 to 2011. He was a member of the Danish Folketing representing the Faroe Islands from 11 March 1998 until 20 November 2001. Petur Mohr Dam
Peter Mohr Dam (11 August 1898 – 8 November 1968) was a Faroe Islands politician who was one of the founders of the Social Democratic Javnaðarflokkurin party in 1926. Biography Dam was born on 11 August 1898, in Skopun, Faroe Islands. The first position he took was becoming a teacher in Tvøroyri. He then became a member of the town council of Tvøroyri from 1925 until his death, and later mayor of the same city from 1934–1957. Atli Pætursson Dam (12 September 1932 – 7 February 2005) was a Faroese politician who served as Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands on three occasions, most recently from 1991 to 1993. To this date, he is the longest-serving Prime Minister in Faroese history, having served a total of 16 years. TB/FC Suðuroy/Royn
TB/FC Suðuroy/Royn was a Faroese football club based in Trongisvágur. The team was a result of a merger between all three clubs from the island of Suðuroy: Tvøroyrar Bóltfelag, FC Suðuroy and Royn Hvalba. The agreement about the merger was so late that there was not enough time to find a new name and identity for the club, so the name was a combination of all three names of the clubs. The name was too long to use, so the media started to use the word ''Suðuroyarliðið'' instead, which means ''The team from Suðuroy'' and the supporters and the chairmen had agreed upon using the word ''Suðringar'', which means ''People of Suðuroy''. Ólavsøka
Ólavsøka () is the biggest summer festival in the Faroe Islands, and by most Faroese considered as the national holiday of the Faroes along with Flag Day on 25 April. Ólavsøka is celebrated over two days, from the 28th to the 29th of July, the second of which is the day when the Faroese Parliament (''Løgting'') opens its session. Ólavsøka is a cultural and sports festival with boat races, football matches and other events. The 28 July, which is the day where the finals of the rowing competitions take place, is half working day for the members of some of the labour unions while Saint Olaf's Day (''Ólavsøkudagur'') on 29 July is full holiday for members of most of the unions.
