Tuvalu Rugby Union
The Tuvalu Rugby Union, or TRU, is the governing body for rugby union in Tuvalu. It also organises the Rugby Sevens competitions. It was established in 2007 and is a full member of the Federation of Oceania Rugby Unions (FORU), which is the regional governing body for rugby in Oceania. Oceania Rugby, previously known as the Federation of Oceania Rugby Unions (FORU), is the regional governing body for rugby union in Oceania. It was founded in 2000 to represent the interests of Oceania rugby within World Rugby, the international governing body. It presently encompasses fourteen full members and two associate members. Rugby sevens (commonly known simply as sevens, and originally seven-a-side rugby) is a variant of rugby union in which teams are made up of seven players playing seven-minute halves, instead of the usual 15 players playing 40-minute halves. The Pacific Games (French: Jeux du Pacifique), is a continent, continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from Oceania. Tuvalu National Rugby Sevens Team
The Tuvalu national rugby sevens team (Tuvalu 7s) participates in the Rugby Sevens competitions at the Pacific Games and the Oceania Sevens Championship. History The Tuvalu Rugby Union (TRU) was established in 2007 as the organising body for Rugby Union in Tuvalu. The TRU selects the members of the Tuvalu 7s. Tuvalu is a lower ranking rugby nation, with the Tuvalu 7s focusing on skills development. The Tuvalu 7s lost all their matches at the 2011 Pacific Games, and at the 2017 Oceania Sevens Championships. Rugby union is played in Tuvalu. Unlike most South Pacific islands, rugby union is largely played on an informal basis,. alongside association football, which is the main sport played by Tuvaluans. The Tuvalu Rugby Union, an organising body for Rugby Union, was established in 2007 with the intention of forming a national team. Rugby sevens was first introduced to Tuvalu in 2007. History Rugby is played at the two secondary schools; Fetuvalu Secondary School, a day school located on Funafuti, and Motufoua Secondary School, a boarding school located on Vaitupu. They have their own internal tournaments. The club level rugby competition has eight clubs, all based on the main island of Funafuti.
