Troy Ward
Troy G. Ward (born 4 June 1962) is an American ice hockey coach. Ward spent three years (1997–2000) as assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League. His playing career was from 1980 to 1984. On June 30, 2011, following one year as an assistant coach, Ward was named as the new head coach of the Abbotsford Heat. He was named the head coach of the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the 2014–15 WHL season, 2014–15 season but was released of his duties November 25, 2014, after 25 games. On June 10, 2015, the Madison Capitols announced that Ward had accepted the dual role of head coach and general manager for the team's upcoming 2015–16 USHL season, 2015–16 season. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. 2000–01 ECHL Season
The 2000–01 ECHL season was the 13th season of the ECHL. Before the season, the league lost three members as the Huntington Blizzard and the Jacksonville Lizard Kings ceased operations and the powerhouse Hampton Roads Admirals were replaced by the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League, the league also decided to expand the regular season to 72 games. ECHL
The ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League) is a mid-level professional ice hockey league based in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, with teams scattered across the United States and Canada. It is a tier below the American Hockey League (AHL). The ECHL and the AHL are the only minor leagues recognized by the collective bargaining agreement between the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players' Association, meaning any player signed to an entry-level NHL contract and designated for assignment must report to a club in either the ECHL or the AHL. John Brophy Award
The John Brophy Award goes to the ECHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success as voted by the coaches of each of the ECHL teams. The John Brophy Award has been awarded since 1989. The award is named after John Brophy, who coached in the league for 13 seasons and won 575 regular and postseason games, an ECHL record. The award, founded in 1989 and originally named Coach Of The Year, was renamed in his honor in 2003. Bob Ferguson is the only multiple winner of the award having won it in 1999 and 2000. The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States.
