Trollryggen
Trollryggen is a peak along the Trolltindene ridge along the Romsdalen valley. It is located in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The Rauma River and the European route E136 highway lie just to the east of the ridge at the bottom of the valley. The north face of the peak is part of the famous Trollveggen (Troll Wall)—the highest vertical cliff in Europe. The highest peak on that ridge is Store Trolltind, about to the north. It is also a part of Reinheimen National Park. Tadeusz Piotrowski (mountaineer)
Tadeusz Piotrowski (September 19, 1939 – July 10, 1986) was a Polish mountaineer and author of several books related to the subject. He has been referred to as "perhaps the finest winter mountaineer of his day". Career Piotrowski began his career in the 1960s in Poland's Tatra Mountains, around the time when he was a student at the Szczecin University of Technology. He would go on to become one of the leading Polish mountaineers, known worldwide as a winter climbing specialist. He was one of the earliest mountaineers to specialize in winter climbing. Romsdalen
Romsdalen is a valley in the western part of Norway. The long valley runs through Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county and Lesja Municipality in Innlandet county. It is the valley of the Rauma river, from Old Norse word ''Raumsdalr'' which means Rauma valley. The traditional district of Romsdal, which makes up about one-third of Møre og Romsdal county, is named for the valley of Romsdalen. The main road E136 and the Rauma line runs along the valley floor. ''Mannen'' is an unstable rock above the valley. Mannen is expected to someday slide into the valley floor and block the river. There could be devastating flood downstream, if the river suddenly breaks through the dam created by the rockslide. Wojciech Kurtyka
Wojciech Kurtyka (also ''Voytek'' Kurtyka, born 25 July 1947, in Skrzynka near Kłodzko) is a Polish mountaineer and rock climber, one of the pioneers of the alpine style of climbing the biggest walls in the Greater Ranges. He lived in Wrocław up to 1974 when he moved to Kraków. He graduated as engineer in electronics (in 1973 at Wrocław University of Technology). In 1985 he climbed the "Shining Wall" Gasherbrum IV, which ''Climbing'' magazine declared to be the greatest achievement of mountaineering in the twentieth century. In 2016, he received the Piolet d'Or for lifetime achievement in mountaineering. Career His climbs in Poland consist of many difficult climbs – in crags, the hardest free climbs and free solo climbs of the time. Rauma Municipality
Rauma is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Romsdal. The administrative centre is the town of Åndalsnes. Other settlements in Rauma include the villages of Måndalen, Innfjorden, Veblungsnes, Verma, Isfjorden, Eidsbygda, Rødven, Åfarnes, and Mittet. Most settlement in the municipality is located along the fjords and in the Romsdalen valley. The municipality surrounds part of the southern end of Romsdalsfjorden and the Isfjorden and it also includes the Romsdalen valley and Romsdalsalpene mountains. Rauma River
The Rauma is a river that runs through '' Romsdalen'', a valley in Møre og Romsdal and Innlandet counties in Norway. It runs for from '' Lesjaskogsvatnet'', a lake in the municipality of Lesja, to the town of Åndalsnes in the municipality of Rauma. The river was once famous for its salmon-fishing, but since an infection with '' Gyrodactylus salaris'' only 5 to 10% of the original stock survives. This, however, has begun to recover rapidly after a successful revitalisation project. The salmon runs up to the '' Slettafossen'', a high combination of waterfalls and rapids more than upriver from the estuary. The Rauma River and its valley are regarded as one of the most beautiful in Norway. Store Trolltind
Store Trolltind a mountain summit in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. At in height, it is the highest point along the Trolltindane ridge. It has the vertical Trollveggen cliff separating the peak from the Romsdalen valley below, a drop of about which makes it the highest vertical cliff in Europe. The Rauma River and the European route E136 highway lie to the east in the valley. The Trollryggen peak is located about to the south.
