Triple M LocalWorks
Triple M is an Australian commercial radio network owned and operated by Southern Cross Austereo. The network consists of 45 radio stations with flagship stations broadcasting a mainstream/classic rock music format in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, 37 regional stations broadcasting a modern adult contemporary/ adult hits format and 5 digital radio stations. The network dates back to the launch of Triple M Sydney in 1980. On 15 December 2016, the network was amalgamated with the LocalWorks network of regional radio stations. History The first Triple M station was Triple M Sydney, which commenced broadcasting to Sydney on 2 August 1980. Mainstream rock (also known as heritage rock) is a radio format used by many commercial radio stations in the United States and Canada. Format background Mainstream rock stations represent a cross between classic rock, active rock and alternative rock on the programming spectrum, in that they play more classic rock songs from the 1970s and 1980s and fewer songs from emerging acts than active rock and alternative rock stations, and only rarely play songs on the softer edge of the classic rock format or the harder edge of the active rock format. Mike Batt
Michael Philip Batt (born 6 February 1949) is an English singer-songwriter, musician, arranger, record producer, director, and conductor. He served as the Deputy Chairman of the British Phonographic Industry. Batt created the novelty pop band The Wombles, after recording the theme song for the animated BBC series of the same name. He also composed the song " Bright Eyes" for the 1978 animated film '' Watership Down''. Batt promoted the early career of singer Katie Melua after signing her to his label, Dramatico. Established as 5MMM in 1979, it broadcasts on 93.7 MHz across the greater metropolitan area of Adelaide and the surrounding rural areas, as well as a live stream via its website. Triple M Brisbane is a commercial FM rock radio station in Brisbane, Australia. It broadcasts on 104.5 and on DAB+ digital radio. It is affiliated with the Triple M stations owned by SCA in other cities, but many of its programs are local. Station history Triple M Brisbane started on the FM band at 104.1 MHz on 22 August 1980. Brisbane businessman Leo Williams was the driving force behind the venture. The station manager was Rob McKay, who held the position for three years.
