Trinity Lowthian
Trinity Lowthian (born January 29, 2002) is a Canadian wheelchair fencer. Early life and education Lowthian attended South Carleton High School. While in grade ten and eleven, Lowthian became sick and spent time at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. In 2018, she was diagnosed with autoimmune autonomic neuropathy. Prior to her illness, Lowthian competed in biathlon, triathlon, cross-country and water polo. She is studying nutrition and food science at the University of Ottawa. Fencing Lowthian began wheelchair fencing in May 2022 with the Ottawa Fencing Club. She has no function in her lower body and competes in the B class. At the 2022 Pan American Championships in Brazil, she won three bronze medals and one silver. In September 2023, she was ranked number one in U23 wheelchair épée fencing in the B category, after placing sixth in U23 women's B épée at the 2022 World Cup and winning bronze in the U23 combined A and B class épée at the 2023 World Cup in Busan. ... Wheelchair fencing at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France will be held between 3 and 7 September. There will be a total of sixteen events: eight events each for men and women. They will be categories A and B and will use épée, foil and sabre swords in individual events and épée and foil in team events. Qualification An NPC can enter a maximum of two eligible fencers per individual event. Eligible fencers must at least compete in three international sanctioned IWAS Wheelchair Fencing competitions between 1 October 2022 to 31 May 2024. Ruth Sylvie Morel (born September 2, 1956) is a Canadian Paralympic Wheelchair fencing, wheelchair fencer. Career At the 2000 Summer Paralympics, Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, Morel was the first Canadian to compete in Paralympic-level wheelchair fencing. She placed 10th in épée and 11th in foil. She qualified for the 2004 Summer Paralympics but was not selected by Canada to compete. At the 2011 International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation, International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing Americas Championships, Morel won gold in women's A épée, which qualified her for the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
