''Tossing Seeds (Singles 89–91)'' is an album by Superchunk compiling a number of their earliest 7" singles and EPs. It was released by Merge Records in 1992. All tracks on ''Tossing Seeds'' were recorded at Duck Kee Studios, except for "Seed Toss", which was recorded at the Chicago Recording Company. Four of the tracks on this album are covers: "Train from Kansas City", a Shangri-Las song; "Night Creatures", a song originally recorded by The Flys; and "It's So Hard to Fall in Love" and "Brand New Love", which were originally recorded by Sebadoh. "Slack Motherfucker" was named the 19th best single of the 1990s by ''Spin'' magazine. It was later covered by fIREHOSE on the ''Live Totem Pole'' EP. A video was created for "Fishing", a song that is regularly played in concert and is considered one of their signature songs, often played as the last song or as an encore. Compilation Album

Superchunk
Superchunk is an American indie rock band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States, consisting of singer-guitarist Mac McCaughan, guitarist Jim Wilbur, bassist Laura Ballance, and drummer Jon Wurster. Formed in 1989, they were one of the bands that helped define the Chapel Hill music scene of the 1990s. Their energetic, high-velocity style and do-it-yourself ethic is influenced by punk rock. Members McCaughan and Ballance founded the successful independent record label Merge Records in 1989 as a way to release music from Superchunk and music created by friends, which has expanded to include artists from around the world and records reaching the top of the ''Billboard'' music charts. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". Merge Records
Merge Records is an independent record label based in Durham, North Carolina. It was founded in 1989 by Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan. It began as an outlet for music from their band Superchunk and music created by friends, and has expanded to include artists from around the world, with records reaching the top of the ''Billboard'' music charts. ''No Pocky for Kitty'' is the second studio album by American indie rock band Superchunk, released in 1991. Pocky is a popular Japanese snack food. Production The album was recorded April 21–23, 1991, at the Chicago Recording Company by Steve Albini. It was released on Matador Records in 1991, and reissued by Merge Records in 1999. Albini is not credited in the liner notes, which read "Produced with eyes closed by Laura, who sat in the right chair." The reference is to Laura Ballance, the group's bassist.
