Tondiarpet
Tondiarpet is a northern neighbourhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Etymology This area got its name from a famous nineteenth-century Muslim Saint Kunangudi Masthan Sahib. His birthplace is located near Thondi in Ramanathapuram District. The locals called him "Thondiar", meaning "Man hailing from Thondi". Later, Lebbai Kaadu came to be known as Tondiarpet. Hazarath Kunangudi Masthan Sahib Dargah located in Royapuram near Tondiarpet is visited by people of all faith. His writings are hailed by all people and are available in a textbook labeled as Gnana Sidhar Kunangudiar. It is available at his dargah in Royapuram. Location The place is located in the northern part of Chennai and close to Bay of Bengal. Tondiarpet (Chennai Suburban Railway)
Tondiarpet railway station is one of the railway station of the Chennai Central–Gummidipoondi section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It serves the neighbourhood of Tondiarpet, a suburb of Chennai, and is located 5 km north of Chennai Central railway station. It has an elevation of 5 m above sea level. History The lines at the station were electrified on 13 April 1979, with the electrification of the Chennai Central–Gummidipoondi section. Diesel loco shed Tondiarpet diesel loco shed is located to the north of the station. Established in 1972 with the induction of a WDS4B-model diesel locomotive (WDS4B #19202), the shed was built to cater the shunting requirements of the marshalling yard at Tondiarpet, the goods sheds at Royapuram and Salt Cotaurs, and the coaching depot at Basin Bridge in Chennai division. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is the urban planning agency of Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The CMDA administers the Chennai Metropolitan Region, spread over an area of and covers the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Ranipet and Kancheepuram. Kunangudi Masthan Sahib
Kunangudi Masthan Sahib (1792-1838) was a Tamil Qadiriyya Sufi poet and composer. His songs remain popular today, especially in the Gaana music of Chennai. Early life Masthan Sahib was Born at Kunangudi near Thondi in Ramanathapuram district, he was named Sultan Abdul Kadir Sahib at birth his parents Nainar Mohamed Sahib and Fathima bivi were Wealthy Rowther parents but the son chose to give it all up, seeking the supreme truth. He became a Sufi, taking to the Qadariya order. His love for God he expressed in the form of songs. To him, God was the beloved and in some of the songs, in keeping with the Sufi tradition. Ramanathapuram District, also known as Ramnad District, is one of the 38 administrative districts of Tamil Nadu state in southern India. The North Line of the Chennai Suburban Railway is the third-longest suburban rail line in the system, running north from Moore Market, Chennai Central MMC to Bitragunta in Andhra Pradesh. Royapuram
Royapuram is a locality in the northern part of the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is best known for its beach, and for Royapuram Railway Station. The station is the first railway station of South India, opening in 1856, and is today the oldest surviving railway station of the Indian subcontinent.
