Chennai International Airport is an international airport serving the city of Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, India. It is located in Tirusulam in Chengalpattu district, in the Greater Chennai Metropolitan Area around southwest of the city centre. The first air service was operated in 1915 and the airport was commissioned in 1930. The airport serves as the southern regional headquarters of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for South India comprising the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and the union territories of Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. The airport is the fifth-busiest airport in India by passenger traffic and aircraft movements, and fourth-busiest by cargo handled in India and international traffic. The Tirusulam Railway Station is one of the railway stations of the Chennai Beach–Chengalpattu section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It serves the neighbourhood of Tirusulam, a suburb of Chennai where the city's airport is located. Chennai Metro
The Chennai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Chennai, India. Operated by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) – a joint venture between the Government of India and the State Government of Tamil Nadu, the network consists of two lines and spans . The system uses standard gauge and has 41 underground and elevated stations. Once ongoing construction is completed, it will become the 2nd largest rapid transit system in India after the Delhi Metro. Planning for the metro started in 2007-08 with construction commencing in February 2009. Chennai International Airport Metro Station
NLC India Airport Metro (formerly known as Chennai International Airport) is an elevated southern terminal metro station on the North-South Corridor of the Blue Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India. This station serves the Chennai International Airport and the neighbourhoods of Meenambakkam, Tirusulam, Pallavaram, Pammal, Kundrathur and Tambaram. The station is the only elevated airport metro station in India. The other airport metro stations in the country such as those in Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and the proposed ones at Bangalore and Hyderabad are underground. Chennai Greenfield Airport, Parandur
Chennai Greenfield Airport is a proposed greenfield airport project to serve the Chennai Metropolitan Area in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is planned to be built near Parandur in Kanchipuram district, and will serve as the secondary airport alongside the existing Chennai International Airport. Background and planning Plans for a new greenfield airport for the Chennai Metropolitan Area was put forward as early as in 1998. In 2007, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu announced that the new airport would be set up in land near Sriperumbudur. As the new airport was delayed due to land acquisition problems, an expansion plan was unveiled to expand the existing Chennai International Airport in 2018 to increase the terminal area to with a capacity of 35 million passengers. Meenambakkam is a southern neighbourhood of Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is home to Chennai International Airport, the Airports Authority of India regional office, and the DGQA Complex. It was under the reign of the Pallava kingdom. The name Meenambakkam signifies that it is a settlement near the coast. Pakkam means a settlement near to the coast. Meenambakkam was cherished with lakes, ponds and borderlines the Adyar river.
