Tomoki Suzuki (athlete)
Tomoki Suzuki (, born 14 June 1994) is a Japanese wheelchair racer, who won the 2020, 2024 and 2025 Tokyo Marathons, came second at the 2015, 2018, 2021 and 2023 Tokyo Marathons, and came third at the 2017 Tokyo, 2019 and 2023 London Marathons. Suzuki and won a bronze medal in the mixed 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, and a bronze medal in the marathon T54 event at the 2024 Summer Paralympics. He is currently running the 2025 London Marathon. Personal life Suzuki was born on 14 June 1994 in Tateyama, Chiba, Japan. At the age of eight months, Suzuki was involved in a car accident that left him with paraplegia. He now lives in Tokyo. Career Suzuki competed at the 2009 Asian Youth Para Games, whilst at middle school. Whilst in secondary school, he was coached by Paralympian Nobukazu Hanaoka. 2017 Tokyo Marathon
The 2017 Tokyo Marathon () was the eleventh edition of the annual marathon race in Tokyo, Japan and was held on Sunday, 26 February. An IAAF Gold Label Road Race, it was the first World Marathon Majors event to be held that year. The men's race was won by Wilson Kipsang in a New Course Record of 2:03:58. 2009 Asian Youth Para Games
The 2009 Asian Youth Para Games (), officially known as the 1st Asian Youth Para Games, was an Asian youth disabled multi-sport event held in Tokyo, Japan from 10 to 13 September 2009. Around 466 athletes from 29 participating nations participated at the games which featured 6 sports consisted of 5 main sports and 1 demonstration sport. This was the first time Japan hosted the games. Japan is the first nation to host the Asian Youth Para Games. The games was opened and closed by Akihito at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. The final medal tally was led by host Japan, followed by Iran and China. Paraplegia
Paraplegia, or paraparesis, is an impairment in motor or sensory function of the lower extremities. The word comes from Ionic Greek () "half-stricken". It is usually caused by spinal cord injury or a congenital condition that affects the neural (brain) elements of the spinal canal. The area of the spinal canal that is affected in paraplegia is either the thoracic, lumbar, or sacral regions. If four limbs are affected by paralysis, tetraplegia or quadriplegia is the correct term. If only one limb is affected, the correct term is monoplegia. Spastic paraplegia is a form of paraplegia defined by spasticity of the affected muscles, rather than flaccid paralysis. 2025 London Marathon
The 2025 London Marathon was the 45th running of the London Marathon; it took place on 27 April 2025. The Elite Men's winner was Sabastian Sawe getting to Buckingham Palace in 2:02:25 with the Elite Woman's winner being Tigst Assefa in a time of 2:15:50 a new women-only marathon record. Wheelchair racing is the racing of wheelchairs in track and field, track and road races. Wheelchair racing is open to athletes with any qualifying type of disability, including leg amputees, spinal cord injuries, and cerebral palsy. The 2023 London Marathon was the 43rd running of the annual London Marathon on 23 April 2023. The 2021 Tokyo Marathon () was the fifteenth edition of the annual marathon race in Tokyo. The competition was held on Sunday 6 March 2022, having been postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
