Tommy Cooke
Thomas Francis Cooke (16 August 1914 – 13 February 2014) was an Irish Hurling, hurler and Gaelic footballer who played as a left wing-back for the Limerick GAA, Limerick senior team. Born in Knockainey, County Limerick, Cooke first played competitive hurling whilst at school in Warrenstown College. He made his first impression on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-four when he joined the Limerick junior teams as a dual player. He made his senior debut during the Oireachtas Tournament, 1939 Oireachtas Cup. Cooke went on to play a key role for Limerick for a short period, and won one All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medal, one Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Munster medal and one Oireachtas Tournament, Oireachtas Cup medal. Cork GAA
The Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Contae Chorcaí) or Cork GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Cork and the Cork county teams. It is one of the constituent counties of Munster GAA. Cork is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both football and hurling. Dual Players
Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The number of dual stars at county level has decreased recently due to the increasing demands placed upon the best players of both sports. John Coffey (hurler)
John Coffey (14 January 1918 – 11 August 2019) was an Irish hurler. His league and championship career with the Tipperary senior spanned nine seasons from 1940 until 1948. As of 2018, he was one of only four All-Ireland hurling medallists to have become a centenarian. Coffey made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he was selected for the Tipperary minor team. He enjoyed three championship seasons with the minor team, the highlight of which was the winning of an All-Ireland medal in his debut year in 1934. Coffey subsequently joined the Tipperary junior team and played without success between 1936 and 1940. By this stage he had also joined the Tipperary senior team, making his debut during the 1940 championship. 1940 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1940 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 54th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship ended on 1 September 1940. The championship was won by Limerick who secured the title following a 3-7 to 1-7 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 6th All-Ireland title, their first in four championship seasons. Kilkenny were the defending champions. Martin White (hurler)
Martin White (31 July 1909 – 12 October 2011) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. White made his first appearance for the team during the 1931 championship and became a regular member of the team until his retirement following the conclusion of the 1938 championship. During that time he won three All-Ireland winner's medals and three Leinster winner's medals. At club level White enjoyed lengthy careers with Tullaroan in Kilkenny and with Blackrock in Cork. He won three county club championship winners' medals with the former. Until his death White was the oldest living senior All-Ireland medal winner. Biography White was born in Lacken near Tullaroan, County Kilkenny, in 1909. Rockwell College ( ga, Coláiste Charraig an Tobair), founded in 1864, is a voluntary day and boarding Catholic secondary school near Cashel, County Tipperary in Ireland. Mick Mackey
Michael John Mackey (12 July 1912 – 13 September 1982) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Limerick county team. Born in Castleconnell, County Limerick, Mackey first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Limerick minor team, before later lining out with the junior side. He made his senior debut in the 1930–31 National League. Mackey went on to play a key part for Limerick during a golden age for the team, and won three All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and five National Hurling League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions, Mackey also captained the team to two All-Ireland victories. His brother, John Mackey, also shared in these victories while his father, "Tyler" Mackey was a one-time All-Ireland runner-up with Limerick.
